The Snow Field Review
Before the actual review, a bit of a timeline.
10/29/12 - I sent my order form to Dawn for the Librarian Series headbow and skirt in the silver colorway. Since my waist was right at the listed max measurement, I asked Dawn if she could make it just a bit bigger and she agreed to make the skirt at 34.5 inches. Total cost was $107.00.
12/6/12 - The items were supposed to be sent out sometime around November 19 and November 30, but on December 6, Dawn sent an email apologizing for the delay. She was moving and I understand a bunch of other issues had cropped up. Now skirts were to be mailed out the following week and JSKs by the end of December.
12/15/12 - I was going out of the country for two weeks, so I sent an email to Dawn, asking if my items were going to be shipped in a bag or a box so I could tell our house-sitter what to look for. Dawn said she'd rather mail out my items when I got home, which I thought was very nice of her, so I told her that I would be back by January 1st.
1/6/13 - I sent Dawn another email, asking for the status of my order since I hadn't received anything, not even a confirmation number.
1/12/13 - After not receiving a reply to my email, I sent Dawn a message through Facebook. She had meant to mail my items that week, but had forgotten and was very apologetic about it. She promised to send my items out on Monday.
1/17/12 - I received my items~! ^_^ I had meant to do a review of them yesterday, but it was dark by the time I got home and most of the pictures were coming out ugly, so I'm doing the review today.
For communication, I think I'll give Dawn a 4/5. Though it took a bit of prompting from me, she was very friendly and extremely apologetic about the delays.
Everything arrived in a priority mail bag, securely wrapped in plastic. Included with the skirt and headbow was a postcard, a business card, and a little slip of paper with care instructions for my items and the return and exchange policy. The fabric is listed as being 100% cotton.
First up, the headbow. It's nicely-constructed and trimmed with the same kind of lace as the skirt. The only weird thing is that the bow's not sewn on or glued down to the band. I've never owned this kind of headbow before, so I don't know if that's a normal thing or what.
The back of the bow with a discreet little label on one of the ends. I don't know if it's noticeable in the picture, but the ends of the band are a little bent. It doesn't affect the bow negatively or anything and it's not noticeable when worn. No worn pictures though, 'cause my hair's a mess.
A closeup of the book charm to show detail. It's fixed on securely and I don't think it's going anywhere. Plus, it's cute!
The skirt, taken in natural light (the first picture was taken last night with the flash on). The fabric feels wonderful. Everything is sewn on nice and straight. There was one tiny hanging thread, but I snipped it off, so now it's perfect. It's just a little bit wrinkled from being folded up in the envelope.
A close up of the print with its silvery accents. Some of the letters on the books are a bit blurry. I love how Gone with the Wind and Little Women, two of my favorite books, are featured on the print.
The hidden zipper and decorative button. The skirt closes with a hook (which I forgot to photograph for some reason). The button's actually sewn on a little loosely with just a loop of brown thread, but that's an easy fix. The skirt also has the same discreet little label as the headbow.
The awesome hidden pocket. So hidden, in fact, that it took me a bit to find it. XD
The skirt is fully lined, but I thought the length of the lining was a little strange. On the lined skirts I own, the lining's hem is usually an inch above the skirt's hem. I don't know why the lining's a bit short on this skirt. The woven black lace is nice and discreet. In construction and appearance and all that fun stuff, I give the skirt and headbow a solid five. As for fit, well . . . There's a bit of a problem with the fit.
It's a bit too big. I had asked for the waist to be made a bit bigger because my waist measured exactly thirty four inches back in October, but now it measures thirty two inches and instead of fitting at my natural waist, the skirt falls around my hips. The skirt length measures twenty three inches, which would've been fine if the skirt was at my natural waistline, but it's not, so now the length makes me look a little stumpy. Naturally, these two issues are not Dawn's fault. And now, I don't really know whether I should sell the skirt and headbow to someone who missed out on the reservations the first time around and use the money to buy something I've been coveting from the BTSSB sale or just keep them and have them tailored to fit me. Thoughts? ^_^
