Christmas gifts for Lolitas

Dec 07, 2011 15:31

Christmas is just behind the corner and everybody is busy picking gifts!

And I have to confess to not knowing what to buy for certain Lolita acquaintances. Now, I'm not asking for help in picking gifts for friends - I know my friends and I know what they'd like to get.

But I'm going to a Christmas meet, and we'll be having a Secret Santa exchange ( Read more... )

Ahaha, no, I'm nowhere near that rich as to give out a pearl anything to an acquaintance in a gift exchange xDDD

You could do glass pearls, they have those at Claire's, and real freshwater ones pretty cheap. Like http://www.amazon.com/Freshwater-Cultured-Quality-5-5-6mm-Bracelet/dp/B004GJW1C6/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1323282565&sr=8-5
You could do that wrapped with a cute bow and they'd be impressed.

But cupcake soap is a pretty safe gift, especially if it's in a fairly neutral scent like vanilla.

Thing is, I don't think there's such a thing as a neautral scent, unless it doesn't smell at all. I'm myself very picky about scents (e.g., I froth at the mouth hate the merest hint of jasmine and everyone I know adores it), so I really wouldn't want to end up giving somebody something they'd want to instantly burn but have to smile about.

What's wrong with no scent at all?

Jasmine is a lovely smell but jasmine notes smell like ass on me unless blended with the right stuff, so I feel your pain.

My backwards logic on this one: I'm giving soap to my friends, and it's going to be all out vitamins + almond oil + scrub scented and coloured pieces. Compared to this, what can I give to my mystery recepient? A block of colourless soap base? As someone pointed out below, shea butter and coconut oil, the basic additions to the soap base, can be pretty allergenic.
...On the other hand, it's not like they can't give my present to someone else if they don't like it, and it looks like I'm just overthinking here and being an idiot.

I thought it was going to look like a cupcake.

If it looks like a cupcake, that's really cute.

The best thing about soap-making is that you can make all this and make it in under 15 minutes! :D

I feel the exact same way about lavender: everyone I know loves it but to me it smells like some kind of putrid garbage pile.

But most soap/cosmetic brands, even the very cute/feminine ones usually offer unscented options, I've found.

Vanilla scented is pretty neutral.
