I'm sure you're all aware of the earthquake / tsunami that's hit Japan. The mods would like to encourage everyone to help or donate in any way they can.

If you're in Canada, you can text REDCROSS to 30333 to donate $5. You can do this up to 6 times.

I already donated before I found this out, but it seems there's a delay period before the funds are actually released to Japan: "During the response to Haiti, cellphone companies processed mobile donations to relief organizations right away. But for Japan, they aren't making this same exception and it could take as much as 90 days for donations to reach people in need

Kind of unrelated, but help_japan is a great comm for raising money, and you can offer anything from fanfic to art to homebaked goods and crafts.

Also, for you Gaga fans, she is selling wristbands, with 100% of the proceeds going to Japan relief efforts. It's $5 for a wristband, and you can then choose to add an addition donation (my mom bought one last night ^^).

I think I may start a fundraising among our local community - most of the girls are students, but who knows? This catastrophe touches many people.
