Review: Boguta Dress + Opinions needed!

Feb 19, 2011 23:29

I've been browsing around Taobao lately and have finally decided to order a lolita dress from Boguta to be used for my prom (yes, i shop super early for prom cause i'm usually a mess when the date arrives) because it was love at first sight  I just felt like a needed to rave about how happy I am with the dress ♥

Also, I need more opinion on the dress and if I should really wear it for prom.

1. Review about Boguta

I got this dress from their site:

Services: 3/5
I live in Singapore and it took about 2-3 weeks to arrive from Taobao (China), which is slight slower than all my other orders from Taobao. However, it is tailor-made and fits me and my measurements perfectly, so I shan't complain. However, the packaging was kind of crappy and there wasn't much updates so I had no idea when the dress was coming till the package arrived at my doorstep (then again, it could be my agent's fault). So overall, I guess their services were pretty average.  I didn't snap a picture of the package cause it was just a transparent bag with my dress neatly folded in it.

Material: 3.5/5
Quality of the material could have been better. The material is slightly on the rougher side, but it's pleasant enough when worn. It's much lighter compared to all the other lolitas that I've ever worn, so I guess that's a plus point :D

Likeliness to Picture + The Design: 5/5!
I was worried that the dress might come out totally different like other Taobao dealers, but Boguta proved me wrong when my dress arrived looking exactly like in the pictures!  I was afraid that the sleeves wasn't going to turn out like so in the pictures, but my worries were unneeded. When worn with a pannier (regrettably, I was too excited and didn't snap any photos of it being worn), I like how the dress flows. It made me feel like a fairy ♥

Most lolitas don't look good on me (I'm 4"9) as they are either too long, or too big. I'm glad Boguta accepted measurements for it to be specially tailored (: It was super complementary and made me look like my size instead of being much fatter (which other lolitas tend to do so) as I have an incredibly short torso T_T

It was really a pleasant surprise as I was actually prepared for the worse :O Came with their specialized tag to prove that they weren't rip-offs:

I really liked the design of their tag, totally suiting their theme of sweet lolita!

Although it wasn't really your typical lolita (it's a more toned down version), I like it that the "feel" is still there (:

Came with a free headdress:

Nothing special about the headdress, I don't intend to use it with the lolita though.

Overall: 4.5/5 - I really liked the way how the dress turned out, despite the quality of the cloth not being as good as I thought it would be, and the crappy packaging! Personally, I would think it's a great buy, but I guess it's up to the individual to truly decide ^_^

2. In a dilema, should I wear the above dress for prom?

I know I do my shopping a little wayyy too early as prom is usually at the end of the year (and it's only February now!), but as the year progresses, I usually get too busy to do shopping and end up in a fluster/panic. I would really like to hear some opinions on whether I should wear this dress for prom. I know it's ultimately up to my own decision, but I would like to hear more opinions before I decide.

My past prom photos xD Sorry if I burned your eyes cause I cried before prom ;A;

I wore a lolita to my prom two years ago (when I was 16), but now that I'm 18, I'm a lot more self-conscious and I'm wondering if I should wear the above lolita to prom, or if it is formal enough to wear it to such an occasion?  I intend to do away with the headbow and replace it with a tiara :) And most probably curl my hair :3

Just a side note, in Singapore, most girls wear short cocktail dresses to prom (in my previous school that is; no idea about my current school though). I hardly ever see people wearing long dresses for prom in SG (from photos).

I would like to hear more opinions from people in the lolita community if you would wear your lolita to prom, and would you feel out of place/awkward if you're the only one wearing it (a lolita dress)?

Thanks a lot for reading and any advice that is coming! :D
