lolifying the workplace: make the skirt fit the job description!

A lot of us wonder how we're gonna make our lolita wardrobes to work for our jobs... and then we find how this doesn't work very well with the food industry... so the answer was to make the place sweeter, cuter than ever before, while finding a uniform alternative to an OP that may not flatter everybody...

Also, apron from skirt tutorial ahoy!!

We pooled together our savings, and opened up an Ice Cream Parlor in Solvang! Needless to say, we were tired of boring white walls and polo shirt unifoms all over the place, so we wanted to go way cuter!! This is the place:

Then, as for uniforms? My choice was a wonder cookie replica:

First, rip appart the ties, the waistband, and the skirt section. What is this maniac doing?!! You may choose to leave the lining for the skirt part of the apron, but remove it for the chest part.  You will also need to iron the gathered skirt out.

Next, cut out the skirt and chest part out of the skirt fabric. I used this apron to copy since I find this shape is very flattering on all of our staff.

Now cut out the chest part! make sure you leave plenty of allowance to finish the edges! Also, feel free to rip out some lace to add on to the top. Be careful to not rip it off the skirt part of the apron if you don't want to take it off, like it happened to me!!

Now it's time to put all your pieces together!. attach the top to a cut-down waistband, and attach the skirt. This masked waistband helps define the waist better. Also, cut out from the leftover fabric two long rectangles to sew into straps and attach to the front. Then take the waist ties and stitch them to the waistband as well...

And there you have it! Simple to make, simple to wear, and simple to clean!! You could even take the extra effort to decorate the top to look like a real jsk, but then again, I rather not have to scrub chocolate syrup off cotton lace

P.S. Bonus Trivia: I found a piece of velcro INSIDE the waistband... I'm not sure it was meant to be there... what would YOU find???

And then I realized not everybody was gonna be able to wear the same dress for various reasons, or was just not practical again, so I came up with the idea of making an apron with the print that anybody can put on over a white blouse:

This is the skirt I chose to make into an apron...
