Cleaning Care Questions

Feb 08, 2008 10:25

I went to the drycleaners today to see about getting my Angelic Pretty Mermaid One Piece cleaned.

I looked up the translations for the care labeling system the night before, wrote it down on a piece of paper, and attached it to the garment to make things easier for them.

for sweat stains, i think you can use a cup of apple cider vinegar mixed in the water you are washing in

I'd recommend hand washing it in cool water if it's dirty and stained. Otherwise a bit of febreeze is good just to freshen it up a bit.
I had a bad exprience with the dry-cleaner with a dress that had a similar print, the dry-clean chemicals and stuff were just too strong for it and the print got smeared all over the dress :(
You live and learn though!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm sorry about what happened to your dress :( This dress was my love at first sight and is the second brand name dress I ever bought and I'd be so sad if it got ruined.

the best way to wash lolita dresses is either by hand, or in the washing machine ^_^ wash them on delicate using cold water and woolite. hang or lay flat to dry.

also, be careful with strong detergents. the print will be fine if you use them, but the detergents will eat away at the starch that keeps the tule underneath stiff. so woolite, or a similiar mild detergent is best ^_^

I've always wanted to use a washing machine but have been scared, lol, especially since this dress has lots of ribbons on the bottom that could get caught and snagged ;_;...When you hand wash your stuff do you use woolite for that too?

you can get a garment net (a mesh laundry bag with a zipper) for that part of the problem :3
i havent washed my outfit in a washing machine yet, but thats what i do for non-lolita items with ribbons/lace that can get snagged

For taking out sweat stains, one of my friend fills a bucket with water, puts all of her whites in it and lets them soak in Oxyclean and water (for about 12~24 hours).

I wonder, can you insure items that you take to the dry cleaners? XD That'd probably be your best option. Either that, or washing it at home in cool water so you know how gently it's being cleaned.

For clothes that aren't that dirty, I use Dryel. It lightly "cleans" and refreshes the clothes. Otherwise I would hand wash in a mild detergent, hang dry then iron after it dries.
