2010 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS
Back in the beginning of the season, one of our awesome announcers, Duane Kuiper, came up with the phrase, "Giants Baseball... Torture!" because of the Giants' tendency for dramatic, nail-biter games.
Well, the Torture™ was totally and completely 100% worth it.
The Giants spent most of the season trailing the San Diego Padres for the National League West title, but in September, the Giants took charge of first place and never looked back, heading to the Postseason for the first time since 2002 (when they lost the World Series to the Anaheim Angels).
We played the National League Wild Card winners, the Atlanta Braves, in the National League Division Series, winning the best of five series in four.
Next up was the National League Championship Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, who had won the World Series in 2008 and lost it to the Yankees in 2009. So-called "baseball experts" were saying, "Phillies in five! Phillies in six!" and Phillies fans were certain they were headed to their third-straight World Series. But... wait... what happened? Giants took it in six and were going to the World Series!
Even on baseball's biggest stage, the Giants still didn't get the recognition they deserved from anyone other than their fans. The "experts" were saying crap like, "Texas in five!" O RLY? Giants shutout the Rangers TWICE and took the championship tonight in game five!
This is the first World Series title for the Giants since 1954 (fifty-six years!) and the first World Series title for the San Francisco Giants EVER! (They came here from New York in 1958.) The entire Bay Area is on cloud nine. We're so freakin' proud of our boys! The victory parade is on Wednesday, and I am SO THERE. I can't wait to welcome our winners home!!
