A few loose ends.
✬My uncle Brian was told, a week after Hurricane Katrina that his house in Kenner, Louisiana was destroyed. He returned there with his wife a few weeks ago, and found that this wasn't the case. The garage had been flooded, a tree had dropped into the kitchen, and a part of the roof had been ripped off, but all in all, the house was livable. In fact, they moved back in. They both have jobs in New Orleans that would go on, so there wasn't a need to move, but they do tell us that the commutes are pretty rough trying to get through the city.
✬I packed up my desk today to move to a new cubicle. Everytime we do a shuffle, we move. This one is one of the biggest moves we've ever done, moving almost 70 people to our floor. I only move one row over in our cube farm, and I'm still closest to the windows. We're on the ninth floor of a 31 story building. From our windows we've seen thunderstorms, fires, a suicide from a jumper on another building and plenty of car wrecks.
I managed to get all the files and knickknacks all in five boxes this time. This is two less than the last. Personally, I was trying to stall, because our facilities manager is sooooo hot. I wonder about him. As we were talking today, i know he saw the bear flag on my desk, and I swear that he gave me a little smile. Maybe I'm just horny.
I've counted, and in the almost seven years that I've worked for this company, this will be my tenth desk. Ten. Everytime we move we pay a company to move the boxes, and the IT group moves out computers and phones. This costs money. I wonder if they weigh how much they are spending here? Still, for me it's a great time to clean the desk, organize the files and re-arrange. I would be a mess if I got stuck in one space.
✬Everyone's trying to get NL Champs Astos' gear, but sadly, they have neglected to make the big boys sizes. I haven't heard back from the MLB shop online, but I did send them a email wondering where the big men's stuff is? It's not so much for the NL Champs merchandise, but for the World Series merchandise that I want. Better to let them know that this merchandise is wanted!
The stores have been swamped though. After the championship win on Wednesday, Hans stayed out to 2am to get his shirt and hat. I know I did that ten years ago when the Rockets won their two championships, and I know the shirts I bought then are now gracing the body of some homeless person or something. Perhaps it's not that important of a piece of merchandise. Still, this is the Astros, a team that means a lot more to me than the Rockets do.
We had people at work who tried to go to Academy Sports at lunch on Thursdays and they returned two ours later with nothing. Sold out of their third shipment. Of course Zack, our Chicago native had his White Sox hat in hand, and also got booed at the store as he checked out.
✬Chris is coming to town! Yep, it's been forever, but I finally convinced him to visit me. I had to promise him that there wouldn't be a hurricane when he came, so sorry Florida. He's driving down right now, after getting a late start. He's been working a lot of overtime lately, so I'll have to help him de-stress.
We'll be going out to the Renaissance Festival, and to Astroworld. Who knows what else. I know the time will go by quickly, and he'll be heading back to Dallas way too soon. I'll be heading up to Dallas for Halloween. if it hasn't sold out, we may go see Liz Phair.
