When Gold thought Professor Oak left him out when naming the Pokedex holders' special abilities, he got upset and when he touched the egg, it hatched into the Pichu immediately, and with Raikou's electricity stored within him, Pich helped Gold end the final battle and save time. It was also apparently hatched with a Pichu version of Gold's hair style.
