I almost forgot about my life of swimming

In a different
world,
in a different,
time,
in a different,
space,
we swam together.
We trained
our bodies
and minds
together.
We met on
a team
in a bus
headed
for California.
You were
short stuff,
and I was
the sleeper
and eater.
We got into
what could
have been considered
trouble.
I fell in love
with the wrong
girl on that trip
and I knew it,
but didn't know
what to do,
I should have
falling in love
with you.
We later
joined
other teams
together
and be came
thick as thieves
together,
and had joyous
parties
and times
together.
But we were
both done
when we met
and knew it
and made
of it
what we could.
You taught
me fun
and joy
and showed
me passion...
I regret
not knowing
what to do
with myself.
I kind of
wonder if
it wasn't because
I was arrogant
or scared.
I learned
how sorry
I was quickly
by seeing you again
and again
in other men's
arms.
I don't know
where you
are, but you
will always
be asleep
on my shoulder
on that
bus
trip back
to the hotel
from the pool,
it's ok...
so you drool.
