Hello all!
It's been a little while since I've translated a magazine.. so I felt it'd be fun to do it again! Today I bring the round table discussion from the 2011 February issue of Popolo! It's the one where they're gathered around a hot pot and talk. Super cute, and Aiba is called a bird.
I looked around and didn't see that anyone had translated it yet... I hope I am right ^^;
Anyway without further ado, please enjoy!
Please don't take this out of my journal without my permission.
DO NOT claim these as your own. I spend a lot of time translating these, please be respectful.
My notes are in italic like usual
Enjoy!
“After the concert, all five of us rode the Arashi jet and ate airplane food didn’t we~ LOL!”
It’s a meeting with all the members! Arashi’s “Ultra C” Class End of the Year Party Talk! It’s a 2010 special full report on the 5 of them!
eggchan’s notes: The way that they pronounce “C” in Japanese is very similar to the end of many of their adjectives (e.g. fun - tanoSHII) so that is where the theme of this interview comes from. They pick an adjective that ends with that sound and then continue the conversation based on that word.
From Sakurai - End of the year party talk 1
“Happy” (Ureshii)
“I’m happy that our new show started!!”
S: What kind of year was 2010 for Arashi? First of all, I’d like to ask about the things that made you happy. Do you have anything, Aiba-san?
A: That would have to be… I’m happy that we were able to ride the Arashi jet.
S: When were you able to ride it?
A: The other day.
S: You really just pushed through that one, didn’t you? (laugh)
A: It was on the way home from the Osaka concert. (laugh) The five of us rode it and we ate, too!
S: It was amazing that they had food on a domestic flight! That’s WONDERFUL, isn’t it~? (Sho said “Wonderful” in English)
A: You ate together with Leader, right?
O: We did! It somehow felt like super luxurious restaurant food.
S: By the way, was the inside of the plane covered in “Arashi colors” and stuff?
A: Yes!
S: Don’t lie! (laugh)
A: That was a lie! Sorry. (laugh)
S: Is this normal for you?
A: Ah, you can listen to an Arashi song!
S: Which one?
A: “Movin’ On”
S: Ohh~. Next, what about Ninomiya-san?
N: I’m happy that “Arashi ni Shiyagare” started in April.
S: It did, didn’t it~!
N: Our long running show “Arashi no Shukudai-kun” ended and right when I was thinking it was gonna be sad, “Shiyagare” started so I was happy.
S: Somehow I am, too! Ohno-san, what about you?
O: I’m happy that we were able to come out with a new original album after all this time. It was refreshing to be recording again.
M: Are we putting the udon in the pot?
S: Please do!
M: Is there any more dashi??
O: It was just like, “this is it!”
S: Sorry. I got a little caught up about the dashi. What were you talking about again Ohno-san?
O: The atmosphere and stuff during the recording was really nostalgic.
S: What’s a song that you were particularly interested in?
O: (Sakurai’s solo song) T.A.B.O.O!
N: STOP IT~! Don’t take my favorite song!!
O: Really, lately I’ve gotten to like it. The more I listen to it the more it gets style!
S: Somehow, I’m really happy too. (shy) Well then, the last person is Matsumoto-san!
M: I’d have to say that what made me su~per happy was being able to see the people who came to support us at our concert.
S: That’s right! We’re still in the middle of our tour, so please leave a comment in regards to the remainder of the concert!
M: We’ll do our best~!!
All together: YEAAHHH!! YEAAAHH!! YEAAAH!! (they cheer, but everyone was so glued to the hot pot they weren’t in synch …. LOL)
S: I’m also happy now. Thank you!
A: I’ll go for the next one!
From Aiba - End of the year party talk 2
“Fun” (Tanoshii)
What is something that you’ve been doing lately that’s fun in the dressing rooms!?
A: Well then, should I go with “fun”? Sakura-san!
S: The shooting for the “Wii Party” CM was fun.
A: Which one did you like in particular?
S: The “Animal Noise” one.
A: I see! By the way, Sakura-san, you made all of the member’s Mii’s didn’t you? What was it like then?
S: Well~ I was surprised at… how dreadfully lonely it was! (laugh)
A: You worked hard! (laugh) Up next let’s go to Ninomiya-kun!
N: I think It was fun starting the year off with “Saigo no Yakusoku” that we were all in.
A: With the rumors we did the illumination lighting ceremony and stuff.
N: We did. The Fuji Television headquarters was plastered with those 5 colors.
A: I see, “5 colors = Arashi”. Which means “Arashi is broken, so fix it with the illumination”
M: Eh? What kind of thought process is that?
A: It’s not! (laugh)
S: Aiba-san! Can you please stop putting more meatballs in the hot pot when there are already tons of them already in there? (laugh)
A: I love them. (laugh)
S: I don’t know which have been cooked through anymore. (laugh)
A: Sorry, sorry! (laugh)
O: Something fun, huh…. (brief silence)
N: It seems like Ohno didn’t have any fun times.
O: Ah! The drama. It was fun that we were able to pass on the drama baton to each member. After one of the members had a starring role, someone else would have a starring role in the next season… I guess.
A: Ah~ so you’re saying everyone got to be put together in the drama scrimmage.
M: We weren’t, were we?
A: Er, were we not?
M: It was pretty separate, I was thinking perhaps it wasn’t possible to cross paths. (laugh)
S: Well, Ohno-san appeared in “Tokujo Kabachi!!”, right?
N: How was it to work together?
O: It was over without us even interacting.
S: That’s true. In the end, Ohno-san was by himself.
A: Let’s go with Matsumoto-kun!
M: The dressing rooms were su~per fun!
A: What have you been doing in the dressing room lately?
N: Yeah, I’m really curious~
M: In the dressing room for the Osaka concert, Aiba made me takoyaki. (Takoyaki is balls of dough filled with octopus)
A: Oh my! What a nice person.
N: What an annoying person~ (laugh) (lol Nino you are a jerk) By the way, how did they taste?
M: I didn’t eat them.
A: Hey!! Eat them!!
M: I heard a rumor that they weren’t that good. (laugh)
N: I didn’t eat them either~.
A: What a cruel world we live in~.
M: Also, we’ve been rotating manga to read between us a lot lately!
A: We’re really harmonica aren’t we? (Aiba is trying to say harmonious but messes up the word. This was the closest I could think of lol sounds like something Aiba would say, though huh? haha)
S: Don’t you mean harmonious!? I apologize for correcting you like that! (laugh)
A: Right, it’s “harmonious”! Sorry for getting carried away on our random conversation and saying that!! (laugh) That’s all.
From Ninomiya - End of the year party talk 3
“Embarrassing” (Hazukashii)
Did Ohno not have a single embarrassing moment!?
N: Well then, nobody has asked this one yet, so I guess I’ll ask.
S: What, what~?
N: We’ll go with “embarrassed”!
All: (In deep thought)
N: No one has anything?
A: Wait a sec!!
N: You don’t have anything embarrassing, right? I’ll end this one~!
S: Sorry! Let us... let us collect our thoughts please!
N: Then, we’ll start with Sho-san!
S: When Ayanokouji Kimimaro was a guest on “Shiyagare”, with me and that person named Aiba.
N: There was a guy named Aiba there, huh?
S: Yep. The two of us were supposed to copy what Kimimaro-san did. It was embarrassing to say the least.
M: “Happy”, “Embarrassing”?
S: Yeah I guess. “Happy”, “Embarrassing”, “Difficult”. (laugh)
A: Okay! Can I be the next person to talk?
S: Be my guest!
A: I have a lot of them.
N: Well then we don’t need to hear it!
A: Wa-wait a sec~! (laugh)
N: What is it?
A: The most shockingly embarrassing thing was, mistaking the Haneda Airport control tower for the Sky Tree (most of you probably already know from Sho’s CMs, but the Sky Tree is a new TV tower they have been building for the past year)
M: You were embarrassed!?
A: At the time I was really resilient, but when I got home I got embarrassed…. (laugh) Also, I ran into glass doors often!
S: You even did it at the Sapporo venue.
A: The shower room doors are clear so I can’t quite see them.
S: You are just like a bird.
N: He’s in there with the pigeons. Well then, let’s go with Matsumoto-san!
A: What? If we go with our seating arrangement, isn’t Leader next?
S: He really threw a fast ball there~.
M: For me, it’d have to be when I filled up my ramen with nothing but sesame seeds.
N: There WAS that sesame seed incident, huh.
M: I was eating with my manager during a break for my drama.
S: How stylish!!
M: That’s stylish? (laugh)
S: That it was in between your drama and stuff.
M: Well anyway, I decided I’d put some sesame seeds on my ramen, and an unexpected amount of sesame seeds came out. It was embarrassing and I was surprised!
S: “ Happy”, “Shocking”, huh.
N: ….. Well then, please tell us your “embarrassing” story, Ohno-san!
O: I don’t really have one.
N: So that means… that this year was not embarrassing at all?
O: Yeah! Less than the year before that.
N: Er, so if you were to rate 2009 as 100%, what would you rate 2010 as?
O: About half.
A: 50% embarrassing.
O: I’ve basically gotten used to it.
N: Gotten used to what?
O: Being in front of people!
N: What’s this? Ohno-san has gotten used to being in front of people finally! Well then, please tell us an embarrassing story that happened after you went out to eat!!
O: I don’t really…
N: Nothing!? Nothing like falling down on your way home?
O: I haven’t been falling down lately.
N: Thank you for that.
S: Come again soon!
From Matsumoto - End of the year party talk 4
“Delicious” (Oishii)
We indulged in delicious food after concerts and during shows!
M: Okay, should I go with “delicious” next? We ate lots of really good stuff didn’t we~.
All: We did~!
M: From all those foods, were there any that left an impression on you?
N: The seafood rice porridge from Miyane-san (Seiji) that we ate on “Shiyagare”!
M: That was really good wasn’t it~!
N: I remember that it was really delicious! That’s all from Ninomiya!
S: Thank you.
A: I liked the baumkuchen that Oizumi You-san brought us! I like the feeling of squishy foods, and that was totally one of them.
N: Ah~ Aiba-san, you do like steamed buns, don’t you. (laugh)
S: I liked the food that we ate at that Japanese restaurant after we did the Osaka concert!
M: What did you like the most?
S: The dried fish flakes~.
M: Sho-san, you really love dried fish flakes don’t you!
N: He’s a bonafide bonito nut. (1. Nino calls him “Bonito-kun” but I felt this way is more natural in English. Just thought it was cute that he called him that lol) (2. dried fish flakes is made from bonito)
A: He is. (laugh)
O: For me, I liked the barbequed skewers we had on the first day of the Osaka concert! It’s the first time I’ve eaten at a barbeque restaurant until they closed.
M: If you don’t tell them to stop they keep bringing you stuff out, right.
O: I couldn’t stop it right in the middle!
S: That’s a first, isn’t it?
M: That’s unusual of Ohno-san.
S: Well then, please give us your 2011 hopes for the barbeque shop!
O: I think I’m going to stop it in the middle next time!!
S: Why!? (laugh)
N: So, please give us your embarrassing story at the barbeque place.
A: Huh? We’re going back to that? (laugh)
O: Ah! I guess I burned myself!
S: See you had an embarrassing story after all! Ohno-san!
O: I guess I did.
N: Well, that is something that is embarrassing for humans.
A: Where did you burn yourself?
O: Here (he puts his finger in his mouth) oof oh ai outh (Interpretation: Roof of my mouth)
A: I get you! Right there!
M: Ah the roof of your mouth. But it’s not a roof, why do they call it that? (In Japanese, it is literally translated to “upper chin”. Jun comments that it is not a chin, so why do they call it that?)
A: I wonder why? Leader!
O: How the hell would I know~ (laugh)
N: Thank you for that.
M: When I think it over, we really ate a lot of delicious food didn’t we~.
A: Today’s hot pot, too!
All: It was delicious~! Thank you for the food!
From Ohno - End of the year party talk 5
Think about “Arashi”
Your predictions on what Arashi will do from now on in the form of a quiz!
M: We’ll finish up with Leader!
O: Okay! Should I go with something like, “2011 Arashi”?
S: We can’t answer things like that.
O: Here is the question!
A: He’s got a question~! (laugh)
N: (Ohno’s Radio Show) It’s “Arashi Discovery”!
O: Here is the 2011 question. (He lights up and changes his tone of voice) What exactly is Arashi going to become~?
M: This is tough!
S: Give us the three options! The three options!
O: A ….. 1!
N: Isn’t ‘A’ just fine?! Why did you change it to 1? (laugh)
O: (ignoring Nino’s attack) 1. We get bigger, 2. Our group name changes, 3. We get more members!
N: Okay, Aiba-san answer it!
A: We stay the way we are!
N: That is certainly our goal. (laugh)
A: Preserving it is the hardest thing to do, but it’s important to continue to piling everything up one by one!
M: But you know, I don’t want to change. Things that change just change naturally.
N: But the way I see it, Arashi-san are people on cloud nine!
S: You are in Arashi too, you know! (laugh)
O: But when I see people that I worked with back in the day, they tell me the same thing. It’s a little shocking…
N: Try not to do that. And THAT is why we are staying the same. Are you by chance sleepy, Aiba-san!?
A: A little. (laugh) When I’m full of food I calm down a bit.
O: You get this perfect warm feeling, don’t you. (laugh) Well then, should the five of us go on a trip in 2011? (YES PLEASE DO!)
M: If we do, where would we go?
O: To Fiji~.
M: Why Fiji?!
O: When I looked at the pictures there it was really pretty.
S: Can you fish in Fiji?
O: Probably. There’s an ocean, so…
S: That’s true. (laugh)
A: As long as there’s an ocean there.
N: How cool. (laugh) Well then, the five of us will go to Fiji in 2011.
O: Let’s go!
N: (whispering to Ohno) You should say “Thank you for that” if the conversation isn’t moving along anymore.
O: Thank you for that.
M: Wait! You’re going too fast, aren’t you~? (laugh) Um, we’re still doing our tour in January.
S: We’ve got the end of our tour, and the beginning of the year!
M: Let’s do our best so we can have a great year!
O: Okay, everyone! Please favor us in 2011 too!!
All: Please favor us!!
