So.. I was watching an episode of Mago Mago Arashi recently, and Ohno and Aiba had a katsu battle. Me being a vegetarian, I've honestly never had katsudon before, but it looked SO good, and I just wanted to try it so bad..
With that said... yesterday, Lotion and I decided to make our own concoction of it! I looked up a Japanese recipe of it, and then we just kind of tweaked it and worked around it. We used fake fried chicken patties instead of the katsu, and vegetable broth instead of dashi.
If you're interested, I wrote up a recipe for it. 8D
Ingredients (1 Serving):
1 Fake Chicken Patty (I used Morning Star brand)
1/4 Onion
1 Green Onion
1 Egg
1/3 cup (90ml) Vegetable Broth
1/8 cup Soy Sauce
2 1/2 tablespoons Mirin
1/2 teaspoon Salt
Rice
Making the "katsu":
Put the chicken patty in the microwave for 3 to 4 minutes, and then to make it crunchy, fry it in a pan for about 1 minute. Remove from pan, and cut into strips.
Making the broth:
Put the vegetable broth, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar in a pot, and bring it to a boil. Cut the green onion into small pieces, and the onion into bite size pieces. Beat the egg.
Next, in a different pot (or a small saucepan), pour the broth in, add the green onion and onion, and bring to a boil again. When the onion becomes clear, put the chicken patty on top, and pour the egg over slowly.
Wait 1-2 minutes, and slide the broth and katsu onto a bowl of rice, and serve!
We decided to add some broccoli to it, but it ended up just putting the broccoli on top of it

材料 (1人分):
1枚 偽のフライチキン
1/4 タマネギ
1本 ネギ
1個 卵
90ml 野菜の煮汁
1/8カップ 醤油
2.5大さじ みりん
1/2茶さじ 砂糖
ご飯
カツの作り方:
カツは1枚偽のフライチキンに変える。アメリカで偽のフライチキンは氷結したので、(日本には偽のフライチキンがないかもしれない)、電気レンジの高で3~4分間くらい調理して、カリカリになるようにフライパンに1分間で焼く。フライパンから取って、細く切る。
汁の作り方:
元々のレシピは「だし汁」を使うけど、アメリカでだしを見つけづらいし、それに野菜の煮汁がもう持っていたwwだから私は野菜の煮汁を使った。鍋に野菜の煮汁を入れて、醤油とみりんと砂糖を加えて、沸かす。
ネギを細かく切って、タマネギを食べやすいサイズに切る。卵を割って、ボウルでかき混ぜる。
次、別の鍋に汁を入れて、タマネギとネギを加えて、また沸かす。タマネギが透明になったら、チキンを乗せて、卵をかける。
1~2分間後、ご飯を入れた碗に乗せて、盛り付ける。
私最後にブロッコリーをのせたから、写真にブロッコリーも碗に入っています。^^
