I thought it would be cute and maybe a bit embarrassing to go to Graceland, when I could have go to the Lorraine Hotel or the Underground Railroad Museum or the Civil Rights Museum or something more important. But. Elvis is about 10 years older than my dad, but he grew up in Mississippi too, and Graceland is still decorated like 1977, which is around the time I was born, so I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised to find it so familiar - the shag carpets, the citrus-colored vinyl furniture, the wood-paneled dens, the backyard swingset, the photos with grease-slicked hair, the outfits with too-wide lapels. It was familiar, but I was surprised though, and touched to be in the South again and suddenly see this familiar, but never-seen, home a few days before Christmas. I'm homesick for it still. On top of all that, my twin sister is a big Elvis fan, and I wanted to pick her up a gold Taking Care of Business (or, TCB, of course) Christmas gift. So all that explains the outrageous picspamming below. I hope.
