...and I'm all mad for J2 at the moment but it's kind of breaking my heart, so SIGH double fandom fail on my part.
I've never written J2, but I like reading it because it often is a bit less angsty than Sam/Dean, but then again, they have their own problems to deal with, sort of the inverse of Sam/Dean, i.e., the Winchesters are so isolated from society that who's going to know or care what they do in private, whereas everything the Js do gets scrutinized. But I digress.
But I know you're always doing interesting stuff.
Well, that depends on who you are, I guess. *g* I write a lot of crossover slash between SPN and Sons of Anarchy, and have at least one more of those simmering in my brain, plus one more het/threesome crossover with Saving Grace. Crossovers, obviously, are mostly interesting if you're a fan of both shows.
I signed up for a summer gen fic exchange and I'm trying to write "Dean works as a roadie for a rock band one summer (STanford era)" and I'm finding it SOOO hard not to slash the poor guy. It's kind of ridiculous how I keep wanting to put all these sex scenes in everything. Oh well, they say you should write what you know. :D /ramble

Very interesting! I tend to focus on the privacy thing too, because I love secrets mostly but also because I'm endlessly fascinated by the binds of celebrity. I tend to get all moody about Hollywood closets, but I guess that most J2 fics are happier than that?
Oh right! I remember you posted about having to write that roadie fic. I tried to think of bands to suggest, but I couldn't think of any! I thought it was a perfect prompt for you, but I forgot it was gen. Ack! I would totally have the same problem - I don't think I could write a fic without any slashy sexing. I mean, it would have to have a PLOT and stuff ;) And maybe even female characters ! I'd be lost. And I'm not sure that "write what you know" applies to slash, because it's never stopped us before ;)
Have you thought of a band yet? I wish you luck! It sounds like a fun story in any case.
I've kind of settled on Lynyrd Skynyrd, although I'm still waffling a bit and am definitely open to suggestions. I'm reading a lot of rock and roll/tour books--just finished Slash's autobiography and a bio of Skynyrd. I have Motley Crue's tell-all still to go. The prompter likes Springsteen, and for that reason I'm afraid to muck around with writing him. She also suggested, but Metallica, but I think their Big Machine is a probably too overwhelming for the fic. Plus they weren't touring in America in 2001. Any thoughts?
Ah, Lynyrd Skynyrd might be just right. Classic and Southern. According to Wikipedia, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, KISS, and AC/DC were all touring in 2001, but I don't know much about any of those bands, outside of their music and randomness. Springsteen would be tough - people take him pretty seriously ;) Something like the Kenny Chesney tour might work too, since that has a kind of atmosphere I see articles about all the time (since you're doing research! I applaud your efforts), plus it's hugely popular and less cheesy than the names I mentioned above. (Also, I hear Jensen is one of his many fans...) I'm not into country though. I think it's a perfect prompt for you, whatever you decide to do with it. Good luck!
Dean/Castiel, right?
