A non-spoilery new Star Trek response post

The best time I've had at a movie in years. Totally totally totally slashy. In like, a "OH! That's why they started K/S!" kind of a way. Like it's a prototype for every OTP everywhere. And I thought seeing My Bloody Valentine in 3D drunk was fun... This was Star Trek does Star Wars. And not in a bad way. I've always loved them both. (JJ Abrams makes George Lucas and Steven Spielberg into his movie bible -- I stopped counting the Lucas&Spielberg moments after awhile. He is a SW fan anyway; and a Charlie Rose fan. But who can't love both of those things??)

My first slash pairing was a ST pairing. There's something about ST and slash though. I know I just referenced how much this new movie is like SW, but SW is hard as fuck to slash. I mean, Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor in a movie together and it's hard to slash???? Boo, George, boo! I had to go RPS for the first time just to get somewhere with those two. SIGH.

EW's Owen Gleiberman puts it nicely:

Describing the original series: It was tin-pot Isaac Asimov, yet the 40-year-old cosmic joke of Star Trek is that the delectable, overemphatic ham passion of William Shatner (those staccato pauses!), counterpoised with the poker-faced minimalist charm of Leonard Nimoy, created a kind of map of the spirit for geeks everywhere. Abrams follows that map to pop bliss.

Some wonderful person on my flist posted this once, and it ended up in my YouTube favorites. It is pretty fantastic. Paying tribute! K/S vid to 'Closer':

With articles about K/S in Newsweek, shiny slashy new movies, slash mentioned on half the TV shows I watch in less than a month (and by Misha, too), and slash fandom seemingly huger than ever, it would seem to be a good time to be a slasher -- or at least alot less lonely.
