Day 29 - Black and White
A black and white photo taken of 2 of the Tibetan monks who were making a sand mandala at Clarion University. There are 12 monks in the team and they travel to different cities putting on presentations and making sand mandalas. They will go back to their monastery in Atlanta, Georgia for 2 days when they get done here and then travel to Dallas next.

close up
dropping the sand - the sand was in pointed funnels and when they scraped a rod across the top of the funnel it vibrated the funnel and let sand fall out the pointed end in an even flow - there was a constant rattling sound going on
many different colors of sand - they scooped the color that they needed out of the bowls with the big end of the funnel
a big drum in the back ground
I took this photo when they were done for the day at 6pm - you can see the outer edges where the design is drawn in white pencil but they haven't placed any sand there at all yet - I would guess it was less than 1/2 way done at this point - they work from the center outward
