thursday still...

Seems like the day is going very slowly. I worked on a puzzle for a while. Satisfying. One of the Dowdle personal puzzles. The way I like to do puzzles is pick up a piece, look at the picture and try to find where that piece goes and then lay it in it's place even if it doesn't attach to anything else yet. If I didn't have a picture to look at I wouldn't even want to do it. Dowdle puzzles are satisfying because there are so many patterns and details in them.

Rainy is itchy again. The bath the groomers gave her didn't sooth for very long - about a day - just like the baths I give her myself.

This snowy day today reminds me of those years when I was taking care of mom. We had more snow and it seemed colder then. I remember one winter I had a competition with Jules's kids to see who could have the longest icicles on their house. They got the prize. There were many winter days I stayed inside all day. Pajama Days - no need to get dressed to go outside. The only thing I went outside for was to fill the birdfeeders. To pass time I made jewelry. I painted and collaged in my art journal books a lot. I speed walked around the house (it had a loop style layout) multiple times for exercise. Taking care of mom took time. Dressing and toileting. Meals to be prepared and supervised. A full bath once a week. Housekeeping chores. I had a full schedule but I also had a lot of time for my own artistic interests in those days. Those were good days as I remember them. Though when I was living in them I felt stifled and shut in and like I was wasting my life away. I would read book after book about hiking the Appalachian Trail and had a whole imaginary life where I was thru-hiking and camping in the wild.

Blizzard Face.

At first it didn't have the dots on the eyes. It was a sleeping face, but it seemed lacking. So I put dots. I like that a person can still imagine that it's sleeping. You can go back and forth with your mind as you look at it - sleeping, awake, sleeping, awake.

Last night I was looking at a form letter I got from Meals on Wheels wanting a donation and for me to sign a petition for more funding. Which got me thinking - Meals on Wheels could be a volunteer thing I might like to do. Candy does it so I called her to ask about it. She said that since Bill died she has to do her route by herself now and she would really appreciate a partner especially with winter driving coming up. So I'm going to do that with her. Third Wednesday of the month.

I think I'm getting a cold. Sniffles and a touch of sore throat. Dry cough. My eyes are dripping and it's hard to see very well. The only thing on my agenda today is change the sheets on our bed and vacuum the bedroom floor. Lunch next and then work on the bedroom. There'll be a naptime too.
