Jan and I hiked at the Wolf Creek Narrows today. Saw this weird plant that I've never seen before. I looked it up and it's called "bear corn". There were a lot of them in this one area of the trail. The same place Candy and I walked 9 days ago and there was no sign of them then. It looked like they had just pushed themselves out of the ground last night or at least very recently. Reading about it I see it is a parasitic plant that feeds on the roots of oak trees. Those are little yellow flowers projecting out from the "scales". There is no chlorophyll in it. Anyway - it was exciting to find something new. Here's a bunch of other pictures from today - nothing much new that I haven't photographed before though:

Wolf Creek.

There is a rock beach in this creek bend.

I always like seeing this maple tree out in the swamp. It must not mind having its feet wet.

A selfie as I walked along to catch up with Jan - wondering what I looked like with a hat on. I was wearing it today to keep the hair out of my face. It was bad enough to have mosquitos bugging me without adding hair tickling my nose.

Blue phlox.

Jan walking through a place with lots of blue phlox.

The bridge that connects the 2 sides of the park.

I looked this up with "lens" and got refreshed on its name - Star of Bethlehem. How could I forget that? Jan said the same thing about it - oh right - we learned that one last year.

I noticed this time that someone had put stuff on the top of the stone.

A video of a place where the sun was reflecting onto the far wall of the creek. At one point in watching it my mind wants to make it an optical illusion and imagine that the rock itself is soft and rippling.

Bonus pic taken last evening. I liked that the sun was shining inside the eye socket.

And finally - another bonus pic - I finished the painting/drawing of Candy's apple tree.

selfie, wolf creek narrows natural area, deer, zs8, weird stuff, video, spring flowers, jan
