I like the hummingbird having a flower.

I started doing some major changes to the front window table yesterday. I have a very tall and spindly plant on the table that has gotten higher than the top of the window. And the kalanchoe plant was getting way out of hand - impossible to move because it was so leggy and entwined with the mirror curtain. I want to simplify the stuff that is on that table so I can easily and frequently change the tablecloth. Reduce the amount of stuff so everything can fit on a tray that I can lift and set to the side when I want to change the tablecloth. Those plants were the main problem. I spent some time yesterday making a macramé plant hanger so I could hang that tall plant lower down in the window. After I got it all made I was thinking - next time Andy charges at the window to bark at something he'll hit that plant and it will swing into the window. Boom. Broken things. So many of the mirrors in the mirror curtain have broken from that. So then I thought - how about a shelf across the window to put the plants on and some of the other stuff I keep on that table. I asked Dave if he had a board I could use. He has hundreds of boards out there in his stacks from the sawmill. We went out and found a nice pine board about 8 inches wide and over 6' long. I didn't ask for this (I would have just used the weathered old board as it was) but he's into woodworking and immediately started the work of making a nice smooth, rounded edge board for me. I painted the L brackets that will hold it up with a bronze colored paint. Then I cut the kalanchoe back severely and potted the best cuttings into 2 pots. I decided it was best to put the tall plant on a low plant stand in a spot that Andy doesn't usually go. The kalanchoes and the prayer plant I got recently will go on the shelf. So today that should all come together.

This house needs an intense reorganization and cleaning. The hall closet basically hasn't been touched since 2000. Now that I've started collecting a few puzzles I'm going to need a place to store them. The hall closet would be perfect. That will be my next project. I'm making Sunday dinner today so I want to get done with the housecleaning and reorganization by 4. Looking forward to seeing the table with the plants and window shelf all spiffed up later. I still need to finish and hang the crocheted valance that will replace the mirror curtain. That will drastically change the look of things too. Hopefully that'll happen this month - or at least this summer sometime.
