I took this pic yesterday afternoon. Tomatoes are raining down in Dave's garden. He wants to make tomato sauce from the ones he picked yesterday. So far we have made and canned only juice - sauce will be something different.

Jan and I hiked around Jennings Environmental Center yesterday morning. It was GOOD. We went into Adventure Club mode and decided to continue on a part of the trail that had been flooded by beavers. Pictures of water, muck and mud:

The first bridge was fine but from there it got very soft. That thing in the middle of the picture that looks like a second bridge that Jan is approaching is actually a fallen log. If it hadn't been there we couldn't have gone any farther.

Looking back at the fallen log after I crossed over it. After crossing the log we felt committed to continue. Then we came to discover that the path ahead was very soft mud.

We had to walk on the grass on the left side. That smooth looking mud on the right was way too soft. Jan's boots were water proof but mine weren't. This is where they were put to the test and I experienced the sinking feeling of water seeping in and knowing the rest of the trip I'd have wet feet. Our boots stunk of the muck. But I didn't care. Boots and clothes can be washed. That's what I like about Adventure Club.

Safely beyond the beaver pond area now, looking back at it.

I liked how this old rotten tree tree had been carved out by bugs and worms.

The moss on this rock just seemed extra thick and bright.

I wish Jennings was closer. I'd go there all the time if I could. I didn't take any pictures of it but there is an area where they are using goats to clear brush. The goats are friendly (we were told by the girl in the office) but they didn't approach us so we could only see them from afar. Really it's only a 45 minute drive from home so I should go more often. We ate lunch at the Family Tradition Restaurant in Harrisville on the way back. I had a fish sandwich and got a piece of peanut butter pie to take home. Really good.

Dave wants to be in charge of making the tomato sauce before we can it and I'm glad to let him do that. Not sure what I'll do with myself while he's doing that. Fold clothes, walk Rainy, art-a-day, piano - so many things beckon.

Women Are Perfect Just As They Are. I might even play solitaire with this new deck of cards I got at Jennings yesterday. Educational.
