I don't usually get that excited about winter solstice. Yes, it is the day when we start to get more light each day but it is also when the coldest weather starts. But this year I think I will celebrate it. It is the beginning of SOMEthing good - more light is good. Last night I woke up at 2:30 am and couldn't get back to sleep. I emptied and filled the dishwasher. Made a cup of decaf tea and read for a while. Maybe since this will be the start of shorter nights I won't have as many sleepless ones.
Jan and I ended up hiking to the Kennerdell lookout yesterday. It was cold but the sun was shining on us and it felt great. You could tell the difference as you walked between shadow and light - cold and warmth. Some pictures of the usual stuff - fungus on trees and looking down on Kennerdell and the Allegheny River:
Sort of reminded me of a yin yang.
Jan pointed out that little one in the left front row. Aw, look at the baby.
A skiff of snow.
Deep blue sky.
I thought this looked like Starry Night.
Approaching the overlook.
Someone added a flag.
Kennerdell and the Allegheny. As you stand up here you can hear sounds from the town pretty well. Any vehicle, or any dog that barks, or if someone starts an engine.
Today it is group at Berdella's. Maybe with the winter cold coming there will be less get togethers? I feel omicron closing in. Who would have ever thought all this would go on for so long?
I have a long list of stuff I want to get done before xmas and before Johnny gets here. It's all doable if I would just do it. It's on my mind a lot now.
