After watching "Power of the Dog" and thinking it was really great I decided to rewatch "The Piano" today - another Jane Campion film. I had seen it many years ago and thought it was one of the best films ever. It is still available to stream on Netflix till the end of the month - I was lucky. My relationship with my piano certainly is not so romantic and strong as hers was but I can really relate to her attachment to it. An acoustic piano is different from a musical instrument that you can carry with you. It has a life of its own and an actual place where it lives in your house. Even moving it from one side of the room to the other would be a big deal. It seems greater in personality than all the other instruments. It is certainly bulkier and has a lot of presence.

Another sunny day today.
Yesterday I took Rainy for her haircut. It's like coming home with a totally different looking dog.
Last night Dave and I met Chloe and Mike for dinner at Sweet Basil's. Found out that Chloe is interested in the Bhagavad-Gita and in studying Buddhism. Boy, do I have a lot of books and CDs to share with her now. I will get to introduce her to Alan Watts.
Had kind of a nightmare last night. Dreamed that a raccoon got into the house. I nudged it with my foot and it leapt up at my face. It was hanging from my hair. I got to the door and stuck my head out and shook it so the raccoon fell off. I quickly shut the door. Then I heard a commotion out there and realized the dogs were out there too. It wasn't our present day dogs. Instead it was Lady and B J. B J had the raccoon's tail hanging out of his mouth and there were pieces of the raccoon's fur and skin laying on the ground. The two dogs were bloody, raw and all scratched up. I was wondering what I should do. Should I take them to the vet or just wash their wounds with soap and water? Luckily I woke up then and didn't have to make that decision. When I woke up I knew that Lady was playing the part of Andy and B J was standing in for Rainy in the dream. Yesterday when Rainy got her hair cut I asked the groomer if she did things like clean ears. I noticed that Rainy's right ear had a lot of wax in it. When I got her back from the groomer her poor little ear was all red inside from the cleaning. Though I don't think it hurt her. She didn't wince when I touched it or looked in it. Anyway, thank goodness today it looks fine.
My laptop is on it's way back to me. Though I don't know yet when it'll get here. Tomorrow? The next day? Normal writing/computing life for me can resume when it gets here.
