Up at old 5:45 this morning. The new 4:45. So I will have lots more time to myself to putter in the morning before the official world begins (having to make phone calls or be somewhere). The animals still think it is 5:45 so they wanted to get up with me and eat. If I get up too early (for them) they just keep sleeping. I like to think about the old and new times and compare them for a few days. Take my time with changing the clocks - ease into it.
Got the first square done for my granny sampler last night. I picked out 21 patterns from the Ultimate Granny Square Sourcebook that I want to use. I want to choose working colors for the squares in the same random way I did for the Mystical Lanterns throw. You have a bin of about a dozen yarn balls (compatible colors that you decide on in the beginning) and you reach in without looking to pick a color. When you're done with that color you toss the ball into a second bin and reach back into the first bin to get your next color (no looking). That way you work your way through all the balls of yarn. Even though you are choosing the colors at random you are using the colors up evenly. When the second bin is full of already used colors and the first bin is empty you switch their places. I picked 14 colors for this: warm blues, purples and a dark red and a few greens with off white to tie it all together. In my imagination it's going to look good. Can't wait to see some finished squares and all 14 colors laid out together. When I was making the Mystical Lanterns throw it was always fun to be surprised by the random 4 colors the universe had put together in each ogee.
Anyway. Beside playing with colors and yarn today I want to take Rainy for a little hike at Two Mile (sunny!), clean up some more stuff around here and practice piano. That will fill up my day.
