Some pictures from the hike around the refuge this morning:
Blue sky and snow left over from last night.
Jan pointed out the clump in the tree when we were farther away than this. We weren't sure what it was. Just then a hawk of some kind flew to it and stayed there a few moments and then flew away. There must be babies in there that it was feeding. When we got this close to it the hawk didn't appeared.
The main greenery around here right now is skunk cabbage and moss.
The sun left snow where the shadow of the rails was.
More skunk cabbage.
Jan taking a picture at the smaller pond.
I liked how the bark fell away from this rotten branch in side to side strips.
I was looking at this scenic spot with the bench and I heard Jan behind me speaking very quietly - couldn't hear her - WHAT? She repeated that there was some kind of big animal on the left bank, a big cat or something. We saw it was crossing the creek. Then we could see - it was a bear. I took this picture right then.
Zoomed in. It wasn't a really big bear - maybe it was a baby last year. We didn't want to stick around to see if there was a mother too.
We also drove down the road a bit and checked out the wildlife observation blind.
Slats that can be moved.
Birdie nests in the ceiling. We could see a bird hanging around outside the door waiting for us to leave.
