I got an order today for a pendant I had listed on etsy since 2016. That sounds like a long time but I really don't mind. It only costs me $.20 every 4 months to list something so this cost me $1.80 in all to have it listed for those years. Well worth it to have something that is unique find the right owner. It allows me to make oddball items that are my own designs. Though Pi Xiu might be working too hard. She also had a past customer contact me last night about a pin she wants me to make her. I find this customer a little annoying. She makes her own jewelry and sells it at very high prices - incredibly high prices - and about once a year it seems she thinks of a part that she will need for her designs but isn't skilled enough to make herself. I then spend hours designing it for her and making a prototype to see if she will approve it. I don't charge her incredible prices for it though. I don't want to charge incredible prices! But I also don't want to do it. She can probably find the same thing somewhere else already made. I don't know why she is always coming to me. I'm presently working myself up to say "no, not interested, don't want to do it". I have always done these things for her and find myself fuming the whole time. I need to find the words - in a nice way. She isn't making an unreasonable request (really - she'll pay whatever I ask) but I'm just not interested in that kind of work anymore. Maybe I can say something about being semi-retired and not doing commissions anymore - that's the thing:
Hi ____,
That sounds interesting and I wish you luck but presently I'm not doing that kind of work. I am semi-retired now and at my work bench very little. Just enjoying life and making only a very few of my own designs now and then.
Take care,
Mary
Yeah! There - sent.
Now I hope Pi Xiu will be more careful of the opportunities for riches she sends my way...
