Dave and I went to West Reading last weekend to visit Johnny, his fiance Alison and her dad Michael. I took lots of pictures and didn't have a chance to process them till this morning.
Before dinner on Saturday we visited a city park - the Reading Museum Public Gardens. They were having some kind of monthly pokemon go event where there were lots of new or special pokemon to capture, not that I know much about it but Johnny and Alison do and lots of other people do. Everyone was walking around looking at their phones except me and Dave. Dave was looking at the trees with the eye of a forester and I was busy looking at stuff to take pictures of. It was the golden hour and there was really nice light. I forgot to take my camera when we went there and these pictures are just with my phone.
Johnny, Dave and Alison.
Johnny and Alison heading west.
Sun.
My and Alison's shadows and Johnny and Dave.
The stream that flows through the middle of the park.
Nice brick path.
An area where there were big wind chimes in the trees - sounded neat.
In front of the museum - red root sculpture.
Dove in a tree in the fading light.
Mystery tree with neat bark. Dave studying it.
We came home from the park and hooked up with Alison's dad, Michael and walked down to the part of town that had restaurants. We went to the same middle eastern restaurant that we went to last time we visited, Aladdin's. I got a combo dish but I have decided that next time I'm getting just one thing (cause I love it so much) baba ganoush (roasted smoked eggplant) - plus it's fun to say.
On the walk back someone pointed out this neat mosaic and I took a picture. Too dark really. They said that there are LOTS of murals and mosaics on the next block and all over the city and on Sunday we could check some out - cool! One thing I really did like about the city was that we could walk so many places.
Sunday morning we set out for the farmer's market a few blocks away and went by way of a street that had a lot of murals. I remembered to take a regular camera and took so many pictures on just that one little block.
Johnny and Alison. This is in front of their house. I came to think that a row house might be a neat way to live. I liked that every house was a bit different from the one next to it. Even though they were alike they each had their own personality. This street had a lot of trees and that was nice too.
A porch mosaic.
3D flowering tree on a house.
The other side of the house - paintings painted on the wall with painted frames too.
Another porch mosaic.
Athena. I didn't pay attention to the titles of the murals - these are just names I gave them.
Electric signs.
Cedar waxwing.
The other side of the building - flock of cedar waxwings.
A friendly dragon that can pierce brick walls with a child.
America.
Just a cute little house in that neighborhood.
I did get the title of this one. It's called Viral Van Gogh.
Kind and curious blue face.
Genie in a blue pot.
A sign on the corner building of the street. Mural Corridor.
Frog jazz band.
Arriving at the street market.
I was amazed at this stand that sold mushrooms. All the different kinds of mushrooms!
More.
And more.
He called these grape mushrooms and they smelled like grapes or maybe wine. Which I found weird and not appetizing.
The bread stand. Alison picked out a bunch of pastries and that is what we had for breakfast. So yum.
Pretty bread.
The sign holders were bent forks.
Bread disguised as giant sweet potatoes.
Walking home with a bag of goodies.
I liked the stain patterns on the sidewalk.
Row house roofs.
After breakfast we went to the UU church with Johnny and Alison. I enjoyed the service focusing on remembrance. In the sermon she mentioned how photos help memories form. I believe in that - maybe why I like to take so many pictures. Came home and ate lunch - more pastries - then I crashed for a nap. We left around 3 to drive back. It is a 5 hour drive. We got home around 9. Sebastian and Rossy took care of the animals for us while we were gone and everything was good. Though I'm not sure Dot is very happy. I don't know what to do for sure with her. I don't want to bring her back in again. But maybe that might be best so I can keep a better eye on her. More watch and see.
We bought a big package of assorted mushrooms - going to make fresh mushroom soup this afternoon. Should be good!
