Let me count the ways...
I love how you have the weight of a new born baby
You are squishy and pliable
And trusting
I can carry you anywhere at arm’s length, belly up
You watch the world go by
Up-side-down
Turning your face to see it
The way you lay face up in my arms and look back at me
Passing love through your eyes to my eyes and back again
The way you lick the back of my leg when you follow me
The tiny cool tongue kisses
I love your excitement when you know you have done good
And a treat is coming
Leaping and dancing
Twisting in the air
Balancing on your back legs like a toddler taking her first steps
I love your squeaks when you play with Andy
Your version of a growl
How you become airborne
A ballet dancer leaping over his crouch
I love your tail
A pom that shimmers at the end of you
You move forward and it is like a sparkler trailing
I love your smell
A little doggy, a little musky
But only a little
When I kiss your face I get the salty taste of tears from your eyes
Always leaking
You rub your face on your blanket to dry them in such an adorable way
Everything you do is adorable to me it seems
The way you spin in a circle before you do your poos
10 times, 20 times - you make me dizzy
I love how you jump to my lap
Straight up and seemingly hanging in mid air before landing
I love your face
The dark mask of your muzzle
The shiny black buttons of your eyes
With dark wet rims around them
A sad look on your little face
Serious turned down mouth
Till you open it and your tongue comes out - a pink rose petal
Teeth like white rice in a crooked row
A happy little clown
The way you follow me from room to room
And don’t want me out of your sight
I love you the way that only a 65 year old woman could love a little dog
Who she knows is her last
The dog that culminates all the dogs of a life time
And I think you feel the same
I am the human you have been wishing for
rainy,
poem,
love
