Last night after cleaning out the coop I neglected to shut the nest box door and this morning bright and early (still in the dark) the chickens got out and are now roaming the yard. My flock seems different from what I would expect in a usual flock in that they don't stick together at all. Everyone goes their own way and they range far and wide. Two came back (probably to lay eggs) but I have no idea where the others are right now - probably on the other side of the house. I see one or another passing by the window every now and then. I keep hearing bees buzzing on the baby monitors so they definitely are there again. It's another warm day. But I hope that today when the bees find nothing to eat in there they will move on. I put a pile of scratch feed a distance away from the coop - maybe they will find that and swarm over it - that is if the chickens don't find it first and eat it all up.
No plans for the day today except that Dave will be taking Andy to the vet for an annual check up. I might go with him. I'll probably just putter around here and keep an eye on the bee/chicken situation.
