camp coffman revisited

When I was between maybe 5 and 10 years old we visited the Boy Scout camp, Camp Coffman, where my brother John had been spending time camping with the scouts one year. There were awards ceremonies that we watched and I remember a lake that the boys were swimming in and a swinging bridge that I thought was really neat. I thought back then it was the most wonderful place with little log cabins all over the place. I was hoping I would be able to recall some of it when we were there last night for a wedding reception but sadly my memory was very faulty. It is still a wonderful place but I didn't recognize much.

The foot bridge. I don't remember it looking like this - I remember a little rope bridge.

The dam on East Sandy - perhaps this was the body of water that I remembered as a lake?

Dave on the bridge.

We were attempting to hike up through the woods on the far side to some rocks called Balancing Rocks. We never found them and it was finally getting pretty late to be blundering through the woods so we eventually turned back. I was wearing my "good" (fancy loose black pants that look like a skirt) and after we went though a bog and I got mud on my shoes I had to hold the pants bottoms up so I wouldn't get mud from my feet on them. The hike was beginning to look like a lost cause. The camp is no longer owned by the Boy Scouts - now the YMCA has it. I hope we can go back someday in the daytime and ask permission to hike around and find the rocks. There is also something called Deer Rocks there.

A viewing/seating area above the dam.

The big lodge as seen from near the viewing platform.

Coming back across the bridge. Dave thought I should have a picture of me too.

Here is a pond we saw coming back to the reception but I don't think this was the lake that I remember - maybe it was though - my impression of everything back then was so much bigger.

Photogenic canoes.

We came back after our walk and visited the dessert table before we left for home. I thought the little fairy lights under the lace table cloth might photograph well and they did.
