updating

I salute all of you who update everyday. It is hard to do - to be committed. I do it most days but sometimes it seems there is just too much going on to take the time to post something here. It does take time. But I think it is time well spent. I enjoy wrapping my life up, wrapping my days up - to see what stands out to me that I want to remember. Or to remember what I was thinking about. I do like playing with and re-seeing any photos I might have taken. I took some photos on Thursday while on a walk with Nancy beside the Allegheny River.

A beautiful view on a beautiful day.

Tiny bunny.

Cottage on the hill above us.

The mouth of Sandy Creek where it enters the Allegheny at Fisherman's Cove. We saw an eagle flying over just before I took this picture. He landed in a tree to the right of the bridge.

Young deer. She was crossing the trail in front of us and then ran down to the river as we approached. She felt safe to watch us from the high grass down there.

Our destination - Indian God Rock. A big rock beside the river that people have taken to carving things on. The Indians started doing it and now everyone does it. You can't see the ancient Indian carvings anymore but at least they were chronicled before they became lost to view. No one has spray painted anything on it thank goodness. And there is nothing offensive carved either. The whole walk was 4.3 miles round trip. I felt good about that. I have gotten tired so easily lately and then when I get overtired I have bad reactions but we went slow and stopped frequently and it was great.

Someone recently carved this shield and snake.

Porcupine climbing a tree. I wish I had got a better photo. We had actually gone past his tree when I heard scratching behind us. I turned Nancy's wheelchair around so she could see too and she said, "Back up, back up!" I said, "No, we have to get closer!" "What if it falls on us?" Can you imagine a big ball of porcupine falling in your lap? That would be scary.

Wondering how this gate unlocked. I spent time rattling it and pulling on a metal bar inside the top but couldn't find a lock in there to release. Still a mystery.

On the way back I was trying to get Nancy to smell a horrible smelling flower that was growing beside the road - which we laughed a lot about. I thought it was called a Carrion Flower cause it smells so bad but after getting home I looked it up and it is called Black Cohosh or American Bugbain. The smell isn't like carrion exactly but when you get too close to it and take a whiff your head just jerks back naturally. At least mine does. From what I read some people seem to think it smells sweet (!? - ew). Finally I got out and broke off a piece so Nancy could smell it up close and take it home to torture her family with it.

That evening we celebrated Hazel's 19th birthday.

I love this girl and hope all the best for her. I know it is difficult being trans but I think she is growing into being who she truly is very well.

Yesterday - had lunch with Chloe and Mike after going to their new house to pick up Dave's tools and electrical supplies. Andy always likes seeing their dog Jackson. I don't think Jackson likes seeing Andy but he tolerates him well. Then we picked up Johnny in Clarion.
