Andy is happy - we are going someplace!
Dave and I decided to drive over (with Andy) and see the Kinzua Bridge State Park today.
We went down to the valley floor the back way - there were no other tracks than ours on this road. It was good that we did that first - just to let Andy stretch his legs off-leash before we got around people and possibly other dogs.
First sight of the wreckage of the Kinzua viaduct bridge.
The viewing platform above us. They converted the end of the bridge into a viewing platform when the middle of the bridge was destroyed by a tornado in 2003.
Wreckage ahead.
A little foot bridge going across a creek.
Tower above us.
Jumble of wreckage.
Wreckage at the far end.
We came back by way of the main trail - many feet trampling the snow here.
Dave and Andy.
Viewing tower.
It used to go straight across.
Info about the "big level" of the Allegheny Plateau.
Why there are 2 sets of tracks.
The tracks as they were back in the day. It was really windy today - you could hear the wind whistling in the slats of the fence.
Looking straight down over the edge of the bridge at the paths you follow to explore down there.
The viewing tower has a glass floor. Andy had a good time meeting people today. More today than he has ever met before!
The "big level" and the shadow of the viewing tower.
The wreckage of the bridge looks like pick up sticks. It really makes you wonder what it must have been like when this fell. The sounds it must have made!
The train tracks coming to the bridge - unused now.
We didn't see all there was to see there - we went too late in the day. I'd like to take the grandkids next time and see the museum and walk on the General Kane hiking trail too.
On the way back we stopped and ate at a little Italian restaurant in Kane. I had a really good meal of eggplant manicotti - Dave had spagetti and meatballs. I gave the last of mine to Andy.
