Yesterday Jan and I took a class in kayaking at Lake Wilhelm that was put on by the park for seniors. It was fun, though I don't think I will be heading out to buy a kayak. I would rather walk on dry land and not worry about getting my things like camera and phone wet. It was a pretty picture though, the group of us in our colorful little boats working our way around a small section of the lake. Some of the new ones (like me) had problems staying on course and at times it was like bumper cars. I did enjoy seeing the scenery at the edge of the lake from ground level. I wish I could have taken a camera. My thighs got pretty wet from the paddles but it was a warm day and I didn't feel cold at all. When getting out at the boat launch my feet got totally wet. Luckily all I had to do at that point was get into my sun-warmed car and drive home to change my clothes.

I just got done reading the book, Lost on the Appalachian Trail by Kyle Rohrig. I would recommend it if you are into that kind of thing - a first person account of thru hiking the AT. Reading about it makes me want to do it, even though I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to handle it. I need to just enjoy my little day hikes - and I do. When we go to Maine this summer we will pass over the AT at some point - I think it would be fun to get on it and hike for a few miles. The author of the book didn't use a tent - he used a camping hammock with mosquito net and rain fly. Supposedly they are much more comfortable than sleeping on the ground in a tent and lighter to carry. When we were kids we had a set of hammocks on the back patio and I loved to sleep out there in the summer. I would take one hammock and put it over the other to keep the bugs off me during the night. They are pretty cheap - I may get one (without the rain fly) to try it out.

The class reunion is getting into my dreams more and more. Dreamed about ghosts haunting a room of my house last night. I really do think it will be good to attend - but also an ordeal leading up to it.
