I've been reading about the emergence of privacy (in letters and journals) and this got me thinking: why do we write?
I find great satisfaction in keeping a journal, but record-keeping is only a small part of that satisfaction. According to Boswell, his journal was mainly a way of learning more about himself and evaluating himself from a more

Good point! Maybe writing isn't so much a means to preserve the way things were because "memory is so frail and variable," so much as a means to preserve our perceptions and subjectivity in the moment.

Thanks for the oxygen! :D
I'm working backwards on your comments. Dialogue is a beautful thing. Yay! (And a great break from what I've been doing the last 3 days: moving into a new apartment! The new place is fantastic and pretty much ideal, but omgs I'm TIRED!) xoxoxoxo

see this part here because it DOES give writing an aspect of stability, yet also allows it to be subjective
so um - I try and make theory fit what I want it to do. *shhh* don't tell. >.>
congrats on moving! though zomg that is sooo much work. nesting <3 so I kinda embedded a housewarming present... uh ok it's not exactly "warming" and you might've seen it. but it's an awesome Kara/Leoben vid! and they mention the word "house" :P

How are you doing after the earthquake? I thought of you when I heard the news!
I try and make theory fit what I want it to do. LOL. So, you're working backwards? (You first reach the conclusion that writing is both subjective and flexible in its stability, and then figure out why.) Ha! That makes me smile.

wow! that's a lot of travel! sounds like it should be fun though. totally jealous of your visit to Kentucky. completely and utterly jealous. so many cool things to do and it's soo pretty.
fine, thanks :D we didn't feel the earthquake at all up here :( LA is 6 hrs away (roughly 380mi). Kinda bummed. It's the perfect sized earthquake - large enough to be really fun, small enough there's little damage or danger.
glad you dig it! but, oh gosh this just sounds worse and worse (I feel like I'm tempting flogging from the academic establishment)... working backwards, more like coming up for theoretical justification for my subjective pov, which yknow, equates to theory being slave to my desire. so yknow, fancy rationalizing. *eep* nope, there is no way to make this sound

PS-Did you see the new X-Files movie? I haven't yet, but wonder what you think of it?

I loved it! I know a lot of fans had issue with it for several reasons, but imo, those reasons should've been expected. The film didn't undo the disaster of the series finale, but it went a long way with me. and there was a *lot* of fan service. Only major gripes: Scully's hair was wayyyy too long, and some oddly placed gay context with the villains that felt like they were fighting the clock trying to "update" the XF. Still - nice to have something other than the series finale as a bookend.
