This is the night, such a beautiful night... And they call it Bella Notte THE HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 CANADIAN TELEVISION PREMIERE! Yay!
So before the movie, Family Channel broadcasted HSM the Concert Tour. Actually, I never knew it would be on. I just happened to see it as I flipped the channel from Food Network (52) to Family (51). Thank God it was just about to start, so I was able to watch it from start to finish. Haha. I swear, the way the cast performed the songs in the concert is so much better than the actual movie.
Anyhow, Zac wasn't there (just like in the play), so Drew Seeley (yes, the guy whose singing voice was used to replace Zac's in the movie) took his place instead. I love the way Drew performs. He was just full of energy and somehow it's just transmitted to you. That guy's got superb stage presence, I'm telling you. In my opinion, he really stood out from the cast and he's could even be better than Zac. Anyway, for some reason, the main female cast (Vanessa, Ashley and Monique) are less lively compared to the male cast (Drew, Corbin and Lucas) in performing. It's not that obvious, but I can tell from how they sing, and of course, dance. I can't really explain it, but I can see it. Weird. Nonetheless, the concert was still very very entertaining. Now, for the movie.
"Na na na na, na na na na na, yeah. You are the music in me..."
HSM 2 was just wow. Absolutely wow. Undoubtedly waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the first. Five times better! It wasn't good; it wasn't great. It was phenomenal... spectacular. Sure, the story is still a bit corny in terms of the outcome and plot (typical of a Disney movie) and you are bound to notice similarities between the first and the second movie in terms of the sequence of events, but the songs are remarkably better, and the dances are far cooler. The cast was definitely not lying when they said they were "really stepping it up a notch." I love the final song All for One; it was so alive, just like the opening act, What Time is It. The only song I disliked was Fabulous. Too strange-sounding for me. The rest of the songs were okay. There was one particular song that I really liked: the "new When There was Me and You", called Gotta Go My Own Way. Contrary to what I thought of the former (I really really really disliked it), the latter is certainly one of my favorite songs from the movie. Another favorite of mine would have to be Work This Out. I just love the beat.
Anyway, in this movie, we get to hear Zac's real singing voice. Drew, also the co-writer of Get'cha Head in the Game by the way, doesn't sing a single note in this movie, as opposed to the first movie, in which he sang all of Troy's lines (and then these were mixed with Zac's voice, but Drew's vocals were still far more prominent). As expected, Zac's a bass. Haha. But he's a good singer. :)
So, what's HSM 2 about? Summer jobs. That part of the plot has been publicized since June! Hahaha. There's more to it though. Once again, the main point of the movie is about identity. That's all I'm telling you. No other spoilers here. Wait for Sept. 9, my Philippine friends. Haha. But if you can't wait, read Wikipedia. It's bound to be there about 2 days from now. Oh, and if you plan to watch it, have some tissue beside you. There are quite a number of tear-provoking parts in this movie. Some of them are sad, whereas some are touching/sweet. At least now we know what to look for if our eyes need some rehydration. Hahaha.
Bottom line is, watch it. HSM 2 is soooooo worth the wait. Remember to catch Gotta Go My Own Way by Vanessa Hudgens! And lastly, try to spot Miley Cyrus (*said in a dull, unexcited manner* the one, the only, Hannah Montana) in the ending sequence. I failed to find her, cause I only found out about her cameo appearance after the movie. Heehee.
