Western Food vs Asian Food

May 30, 2007 22:43

Okay, so I've had my share of trying some food here (obviously) and for the first time in my life, I tried PBJ (Peanut Butter and Jelly) sandwich, which I made myself. I was not impressed, neither was I disgusted. It's ok. The creaminess of the peanut butter complements the tartness of the jelly, and the natural sugars of the grape helped make the jelly slightly sweet (I used grape jelly). I sound like Giada de Laurentiis now. Haha. You know, the one from Everyday Italian? Never mind. :)

Of course, there is Asian food here. But most of the Asian food I've eaten here is Cantonese. I'm kind of sick of it already, even if it is kind of good. Almost every time we go to a Chinese restaurant, it's always dimsum. As in, complete meal puro dimsum. And there's the crispy noodles with sauce on top, and the good 'ol Yang Chow Fried Rice once in a while.

Don't get me wrong. I love Chinese cuisine (as I do with most European, Japanese and Filipino cuisine) but if you eat almost the same thing in every restaurant you go to, masasawa ka rin, di ba?

My dad and his Xaverian friends went out last Friday. Kumain ulit kami sa Chinese restaurant. Haha. The lunch (at Gingeri, in Lansdowne Centre) was mostly, if not purely, dimsum. The dinner (at Vivacity Seafood Restaurant) was better, since it wasn't dimsum, but it was other types of Chinese dishes. Then, last Sunday, we ate naman with my Aunt Sabina (mom's cousin) and Uncle Pete at Continental Seafood Restaurant. Dimsum ulit, but still good (halos lahat naman na pagkain good sa akin eh. Hahah!).

I still wish I could taste the authentic Fookien cuisine I'm used to in the Philippines, like from MANN HANN (or Mann Yann)! Gloria Maris and Harbour City (now called Hai Kang) are okay too. I kind of miss Filipino cuisine, even if I don't eat it all the time in the Philippines. There's a Goldilocks here, pero mahal raw. Sandy Daza also opened his own restaurant here. Pinpin is also here, but I never tried Pinpin in my entire life, so I might give it a try when we know how to get there.

Well, that's what you get when you're dad's a picky eater. Hahaha. He only likes Chinese and only a few Filipino dishes. Anyway, more pictures of food.
