Nah, couldn't be. Too many comics.
I went to see
The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang at the Halifax Film Festival with
rubeus on Saturday. It was actually pretty good. Kind of the same mocking of stereotypes as Trailer Park Boys and Corner Gas, but much geekier. I may have to rent Napoleon Dynamite now.
Word on the Street was fun, especially the comics zone Strange Adventures set up. Loot list:
Love as a Foreign Language #5 - I forgot that I already owned it, but I now own a copy signed by the artist. Excellent. Also had a talk with the artist. He's of Korean descent but lives in Toronto and has never actually been to Korea. He plans to travel there once he's done #6 of this series. He's never worked on a romance before, and found it fun.
Northwest Passage #3 - Been meaning to mention this series here for a while. It's an adventure series set in colonial-era Canada. Hudson's Bay, to be precise. Fun books, fun characters, fun art. Definitely not typical, but still worth checking out. This is the end of the current series, but the author apparently plans to continue it, which is good. It ends on something of a cliffhanger. Apparently, I was the first person in the world to buy volume #3, as he had the first printing with him and it hadn't even hit comic shops yet.
Thieves and Kings #1 - I hadn't heard of this before, but the art caught my eye. The actual book is an interesting mix between written narrative and comic pages. The two are mixed very well, and the writing and art are both good. The art kind of reminds me of Miyazaki's stuff, Nausicaa in particular, but I'm not entirely sure why. (I think it's the eyes and the hair.) Definitely going to be getting the rest of the series. Had a talk with the author about comics history (the whole CCA thing) and the interesting stuff you could do with the mix he uses for Thieves and Kings.
Runaways #1 (Trade paperback) - This comic is so awesome. Despite the things that everyone who's read it already knows about. The artist was there, and I managed to get a sketch of Gert from him. Very cool. Alas, he's leaving the series after #24, along with the current writer. On the plus side, the writer's being replaced with Joss Whedon. I totally plan to buy the rest of the trade paperbacks now. Plus, Chase is the most amazing thing ever. He's such an asshole.
I was planning to buy a copy of
Gray Horses, as Hope Larson and Bryan Lee O'Malley were there too, but I ran out of money.
Speaking of Bryan Lee O'Malley, I think this is about time for the obligatory
Scott Pilgrim plug. It is awesome.
