17-th of June in Beijing
Just moved to another hotel. It's located in a downtown, has a much better internet speed than at the Longham Place near Terminal 3. But... YouTube, Twitter, Facebook are all blocked. Only LiveJournal is accessible. So here I am. Жить не по лжи - LJ!
So, I am in Beijing and Sunday is over. It was +38 C during the day and it brought a really nice warm almost tropical evening. Walks through evening city recalls walks in Madras and New Delhi. But with a difference - Beijing streets are almost sterile (at least when you are away from street vendors and stalls that cook and sell different yammy and yakki stuff). There are almost no smells. India is so different - it meets you with smells right you go out of airplane door. However I probably missed these smells a little bit.
Today I walked around in my new neighborhood. Visited a cult English bookstore "Bookworm" (a week ago noticed it online in an article "World's best bookstores"). A very nice and a cozy place. Features a piano, free internet, borrowing library, coffee-shop, dozens and dozens of Westerners with MacBooks focused on their screens. The downside - the shop has a rather limited amount of books that are also not very well organized (though I think most of the people does not come there for books but for socialization).
Now have been looking news about Greece elections. Sudden information from CNN Weather Dept - a super typhoon is approaching Taiwan and Okinava. It has wind speeds up to 241 km/hour!!! This is a fucking deadly one. I would not like to be on its way in any vessel.
Thats it for now. Its 2:59 a.m. Sweet dreams to everybody!
20th of June - today
AUTOMATION SHOW
Industrial Automation show appeared to be just one hall big. It took me only 1 hour to go through all of it.
There was just one producer of industrial robots and no one was speaking English at their booth. Too bad.
What is nice is that the Convention Center where the show is held - located just opposite the Bird's Nest pavilion at the Olympic Park. I like it's design very much.
HOW TO FOOL THOUSANDS OF CHINESE CENSORS IN ONE EASY WAY
Yesterday I have found a surprisingly easy way how to have an access to the Facebook and the Twitter in China. So the solution is just to use the Flipboard iPad news reader which I use often anyway. So this app easily accesses these forbidden www-sites. I guess there are many similar solutions as well.
