Second Life is a Dictionary; Games (like WoW) are Novels

I was utterly sick of Second Life until I saw Thoughtplay link to this fascinating piece of analysis.

Clay Shirky makes the case that games and Second Life are in completely different spheres and serve different purposes. I especially like the bit about the importance of the "magic circle." That's precisely what was bugging me about Second Life and what I couldn't articulate before. It's too real without being immersive.
