Will you say when I've gone away...

"I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth."

Ladies and gentlemen: tomorrow night, July 21st, will be my final night as mascot for the Bethesda Big Train. For the past four years, most of my summer nights have been spent at the ballpark, dressing up as Homer the Dog, entertaining children and pumping up the crowd. (Think along the lines of Dancin' Homer.) I finally got too big for the suit this year, which led me to the decision of retiring.

Tomorrow night, my final night as Homer, coincides with Homer's birthday, which means that all the mascots in the area (Keyote, Slapshot, Screech, Peghead, etc.) will be coming out to the ballpark to celebrate with me. It's going to be a great night with a ton of kids, fun, and great college baseball. Since this job has been so important for me over the past four years, it would be a great honor and would bring me great joy if at least some people showed up. Here are the details:

+ The game is at Shirley Povich Field, right down the street from Montgomery Mall. If you're coming from Tuckerman, turn onto Westlake like you would to get to the mall. About a kilometer before you hit the mall, you'll be able to turn right into the stadium parking lot (which is also part of Cabin John Park and the ice skating rink there). If you're coming from the opposite direction. Drive on Westlake past the mall until you see Cabin John Park and turn left. There will be a sign that says "Big Train Game Tonight" or something along those lines. If you have no idea how to get there, give me a call: 240.338.7904

+ The game officially "starts" at 7:30. But anyone who wants to be there "on time" should come between 6:45 and 7:15. I'll be signing autographs, prowling the stadium for the best fans, giving hugs and high fives, and in general acting like a total mascot bozo. The opening ceremony with all my birthday guests and the national anthem, etc. will be around 7:15. Seats are usually filled up by 8pm.

+ It costs $7 to get in. I know, it's sort of steep. But it's a wonderful, clean stadium and there's great baseball every night. So it's absolutely worth the cost. Especially if you want to see me. As a dog. For the very last time. A lot of you have come to the stadium before, and you won't want to miss my very last night.

Anyways, once again, it would mean a lot to me to see some friendly faces in the crowd. And it's going to be my "birthday" so you better come prepared for lots of giant doggy hugs.

Thank you all very much. Hope to see you all the ballpark!
