The Internet Is Too Big!

Now that I have time to actually read people's blogs, I've run into a problem: the blogs I read are spread out between LiveJournal, tumblr, Blogger, Wordpress, and probably some more I can't think of. And while I love getting feedback from the LiveJournal community, what if I want to get feedback from someone who doesn't have a LiveJournal?

I am therefore attempting to spread out across the internet, leaving trails of yarn behind me as I go along. (At least that's the silly metaphorical picture in my head.) I created a tumblr account which has a nifty sync option for LiveJournal, so what I post here should get moved to tumblr as well. However, I haven't figured out how to get things from tumblr to here. Or Wordpress. Or whatever.

I figured out the Twitter/Facebook problem which is sort of pointless now that I have a Blackberry with access to Facebook. But it's helpful I suppose. I wouldn't bother with Twitter (and still refuse to send any tweets to my phone), but some people like it... and I don't want to miss out on their lives, even if I do get updates in <= 144 characters.

I shall explore this in the near future, but any tips from you savvy folk are much appreciated. :)

I'm thinking of cutting my hair. Actually, I basically decided that I'm definitely doing this. I like tying my hair back and sticking a pencil in it is hella nifty, but I'm never pleased with my long hair when I wear it down, which sort of defeats the purpose. If I'm going to have long hair, I should wear it down sometimes, and I don't want to ever do that because of how it turns out. So I'm trying short hair again:

A girl living with me in AXO had a coupon for a free hair cut from a salon in Shadyside. :) I may also get my hair dyed there... I've been thinking about dying my hair slightly reddish:

I'm pretty sure I'll have to do this at a salon. Getting a free cut helps my budget a lot, but for now I'm just going to get the haircut and then a few appraisals about how much dying would cost before I commit.

So this past month, a sorority sister of mine got engaged. The house was very excited, and as a group we've sort of become obsessed with wedding stuff. We speculated about what our dream weddings would be like. Cora, our house manager, decided her wedding would be entirely purple. I thought a steampunk wedding might be friggin sweet. Lauren took to sketching dresses and browsing for dresses on the internet with me. It is delightfully frivolous hobby. The house has also been watching a lot of wedding-themed shows. Bridezillas, Say Yes To The Dress, Four Weddings etc. always seems to be on (along with less topical favorites like Glee, So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef, and the entirety Discovery Channel, particularly How It's Made).

Watching different shows about weddings has got me thinking about wedding planning as an occupation (and more broadly, about careers, not just jobs, that don't require a specific degree). While I really like linguistics as a major, I don't think I'm going to become a Linguist (what I perceive to be a researcher or college professor in the field). The stuff I'm looking into is more along the lines of teaching, editing/publishing, or something in communication/advertising. These kinds of job don't require any specific degree--an English or communication design or history major could do any of the things I listed. I think these are the most hopeful kinds of jobs for me. I worry a lot that I won't be specified in one area enough to be very desirable in the job market, but sometimes I think that's just from being around technical majors, engineers and the like, who really need to be specialized. Humanities majors can be more broad, which I like. :)

jobs, technology, hair, specialties
