Dodgeball

Well I am back from a great weekend of dodgeball. My team really stepped up the quality of play and we ended up missing the payoffs by 2 points, to finish 7th out of 19 teams. The night before I went out to a Salsa bar called Calliente (sp?) where I salsa-d and meringue-d till the wee hours of the morning. I also got to meet Mel's sister and her boyfriend. They are pretty young being in second year, but I really liked Mel's sister Erin, though to be honest I wasn't so taken with her boyfriend. He is a Salsa DJ, who loves shoes, modding cars, and bling. Not exactly the type of person I typically get along with :).

Back to the dodgeball though, our first game we lost fairly badly though I think we should have done better, somehow because of the timing it was our first game and their second so they were already warmed up while we went in cold. They didn't play particularly well, but neither did we and we actually ended up finishing out the day ahead of them point-wise. The second game we dominated, and finished 4 points up on them, third game we kicked ass again and ended up another few points up. The last game though we needed to pick up a few extra points but ended up tying at 7 matches each. Looking at the teams stats, I had figured that we would do better. but unfortunately no... After the game we went to the awards ceremony but not before Mel (whom I let drive this weekend - What a mistake!) managed to get us lost in Quebec... so it took us 2 1/2 hours to get from the gym to the bar where the awards ceremony was to be held.

A quick note on female drivers. I believe there is nothing stopping women from being as competent as male drivers, perhaps even more competent than male drivers and yet, the vast majority of women drivers scare the shit out of me with the way they drive. Perhaps it is because I've been driving for 12 years, owned a car for 10 years and averaged 40,000-60,000kms a year for the last 8 years but when I saw Mel, crossing 3 lanes of highway doing 60km/h in a 100km/h zone in Quebec where everyone drives 160km/h I almost had a heart attack.

After the 5 near death experiences getting to the awards we all cheered each other on and made plans for the next tournament happening next weekend in Kingston. Then it was back to the hotel rooms that most of the team was staying in for some good ol' fashioned pre-bar drinking. Somehow the girls ended up in a drinking game that rendered them all totally trashed, and Mel, was barely able to stand on the way to the bar afterward. We stuck around for a bit, but after Mel had to make another trip to the bathroom I decided it was time to go... at 11:00pm. Hahaha...

Well it was a great weekend, and everyone was very friendly and the whole team had a great time. I would highly recommend dodgeball to everyone. Its the most fun you've had since 6th grade :)
