well i have a Little Martin guitar coming my way via Sam Ash, Cory's store. it should be in sometime this coming week. i'm getting it at-cost (without the usual markup that most people have to pay) and i'm justifying it in my mind because i'm going to take it into school to play for the kids i have to teach. it's nice and small & the perfect size to take back & forth every day. my Taylor is a little heavy when it's in its case. i was really amazed when i tested it out. it really projects a lot and has a surprisingly nice low end response to it. i decided to order the one with a pickup built in, which the store didn't have in stock. the electronics only cost about $50 more. yay!

most of the pics i found online of the thing are *just* of the guitar itself so its kinda hard to see how small it is if there's nothing to compare it to. i did, however, find this picture of a girl playing one. i have no idea who she is (well, i did visit her blog extremely briefly & apparently she is getting married, so she's not a young teenager). but just for a size comparison...

in other music news, Cory & i went to see Ben Folds last night at the Mann. that in & of itself would be great, but add to it the fact that he was performing with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, and the enjoyability factor increases even more. i sat there listening to the songs i was familiar with and couldn't even recreate, in my mind, the sound of the studio recordings because the orchestral arrangements sounded so natural and fitting. we were wishing for Still Fighting It, but no dice. he had the audience do a simple 2 chord, 3-part harmony accompaniment thing for Not the Same which actually worked really well. he taught the audience the 3 parts, one at a time (the last part was the 5th of the chord & he made some funny comment about "the rest of you just take the 5th, like Republicans" but he kinda mumbled the last part) and then had everyone practice putting them together, and it sounded really good! i wish i recorded it on my camera or something. i also really enjoyed One Down & his explanation about it. the lyrics are pretty self-explanatory, but hearing him explain it made it all the more amusing.

also was the seat factor. i got tickets a week before the show, and decided to get cheap balcony tickets for like $28 a piece. soooo then yesterday, i went online to make sure the concert was still going on since the weather was going to be awful. in my Google search, i came across a Craig's List posting from a guy in D.C. who apparently bought tickets but couldnt go & was trying to sell them last-minute. i wrote down the section/row/seat numbers and figured we might be able to pull something off ;) i figured he probably wouldnt sell them & the seats would be free. sure enough, we went to the location, which happened to be in the Orchestra section - right near the front - and there was no one there. there were 4 free seats so we took 2, and no one was any the wiser. so.. umm... thanks Craig's List guy for getting us great seats! haha
