So, I usually end up hitting Mitsuwa (a japanese grocery store in Little Tokyo in LA) about once a week. Cause, I work downtown now, and Little Tokyo is downtown, and they have an pan and I have decided that I like having that for breakfast....and anyways. Yay for random Japanese food. But, so, they have this television toward the front of the store that is usually playing some random dorama from what may or may not be a Japanese-language channel available in LA? I know of at least one channel that does some doramas on occasion, but I wasn't under the impression that they did them often. Eh. Anyways, the quality of these doramas always appears to be about on the level of a typical US (or Mexican) soap. In other words, not great. So I always just assumed that they were the equivalent of a Japanese soap. I never seem to recognize the dorama or the actors, and the actor pool in Japan does seem to be pretty small and incestuous (with most JE boys being more or less interchangeable as one, massive "pretty boy" entity).

Thus, I never gave much thought to the shows. I don't know enough Japanese to really be able to follow what's going on, and since I can only see the TV for the 5-10 minutes it takes me to check out, it's not a big deal. Until...I was standing there, getting to pay one day and happen to glance over and see a glimpse of Jin. Yes, Jin Akanishi. Which required a double take once my brain got past the "ooh, pretty" moment. Having never actually watched Anego (yes, I know, bad fangirl) I can only assume that it was that show. It looked like it.

So....Anego = bad soap? Or my interpretation has just been wrong....

I at least have to admit after this that maybe all shows look sort of bad when shown in the middle of a supermarket.
