so this is my work life in a nutshell.

our main system that powers our store systems is an older IBM AS/400 server. anyone who knows what this is knows that it runs an old OS, all command line, and that it's a very huge piece of equipment. we have an industrial uninterruptible power supply that keeps it running for 20 minutes in the event of a power outage, long enough to be shut down properly.

on thursday afternoon, the UPS died completely. i figured i had about a week to replace it. what are the odds we'll lose power this week? apparently, pretty good. this morning, the power went out, shutting down the AS/400 improperly. it takes about half an hour to boot and to get everything running again for our store to operate.

so i arrived this morning, booting it up and getting the subsystem queues operational, as well as the systems software running. i tried to order a new UPS to be shipped same-day, so i called the manufacturer. she told me i had to submit paperwork to become a reseller. "so you don't sell directly to the public?" i asked. she replied, "i didn't say that." "but i have to become a reseller?" "yes."

so. there it is. my work life, in a nutshell.
