I just talked to my unethical house marm and apparently she has put in a good word for me with the owners of the house I'm living in. They would be willing to talk with me about putting me on the lease and keeping the rent more or less the same as it is now.
So, woohoo! I guess? It's a possibility. I need to talk to the owners face to face of course, but if they want to talk that's a good start.
As far as places to live, this is just about as nice a place in my price range. Ahem, my parents' price range. It's on a hill overlooking a scenic valley, surrounded by some old-school Marin cottages with beautiful gardens, dogs, families. Plus we'd get to keep all the nice-ish furniture, semi-tacky and bizarre artwork, computer access and cable, washer and dryer in their very own little laundrey room. There's a garage where the outdoor smoking lounge is located and a ton of street parking.
I thought about how it's unfair that I could have the option to stay when my sisters in sobriety are getting the heave ho. But I went around asking people about their plans and pretty much everyone has a good one except for me. So it's not like anyone will be left in the lurch. I'm not going to champion anyone's right to stay here when they really don't care themselves.
In addition, my former house manager and current dear friend lives directly next door with her fiancee. She's thrilled to the gills at the prospect of continuing to drop by each others' houses, Three's Company-style. I am too!
My fam is okay with the prospect as long as I get a job asap. That will be easier once I don't have to wrangle seven addicts and alcoholics in the throes of some life drama at 3am. Now I'll just have to wrangle myself.
In conclusion, woooo!
