Excuse me, your racism is showing

They cast Cinna in the Hunger Games.

So, Lenny Kravitz has been cast as Cinna in the Hunger Games.

Yeah, it threw me for a moment or so too, but the longer I think about it, the more I like it, to be honest. I want to see what he does with it.

The people over on Facebook, however, are not so pleased. Cue a lot of 'but he's not how I pictured him' and 'but he's a singer!' reactions, which I have no problem with.

But. Then you get the other reactions. The racist ones.

Not being racist but wasn't cinna supposed to be you know normal with brown buzz cut, green eyes, white skin and a touch of gold eyeliner??

She's not being racist, of course! Has to make sure we know that! But... normal = white? Nice to know.

Then there are the 'omg Cinna's supposed to be WHITE' comment <-- pretty much verbatim, unfortunately.

What?!?! But he's....scruffy....and too old...and what?!?!?! Cinna is supposed to be white! How again did Lenny Kravitz get this? Is he even an actor? I seriously doubt that he'll look good with gold eyeliner....

Yeah. That's racist. First of all, his skin colour is not specified in the books - Katniss just says that he looks normal, has dark brown hair and wears gold eyeliner - and second of all, why the knee-jerk reaction? Why the 'he must be white' reaction? I bet some of these are the same people who rolled their eyes and scoffed when people wondered over the casting of Katniss.
