So,
the Canadian government has fallen. Means we're back to the polls in a couple of months - less than that, actually. A month and a half, since they're quoting early May.
Sigh.
I'll vote, of course. But I'm hard pressed to have any optimism or confidence that anything will change. The country has weathered the recession rather well, and from what I understand, the latest polls showed the Conservatives still ahead by twelve points. Not enough for a majority, of course - only 38%.
Which leads into the main problem right now - Canadians as a whole don't care. Oh, some do, but most of the ones who are invested are the main reason the government is split the way that it is right now. The ones who care keep voting the same way in each election, with little change - and even if there are new people who join in and vote, there aren't enough of them.
I really doubt that the NDP will gain enough support to carry even a minority government, which means that the Liberals have to find a way to get through to Canadians and make them care for a change. I'm just not sure what it would take for that to happen when they have only a month and a half to do it.
