So, after posting my original reaction, I went off and read some posts, and from there I ended up rewatching the opening montage and thinking about this episode.

At the end of last season, I was disappointed in how women being treated on the show, and after watching this one... Well, I'm still disappointed, unfortunately. In the opening we saw at least six female demons, and that's a guess on my part, I could have missed someone. Contrast this to the male baddies that we've encountered, and there's a serious imbalance.

Now, I get that on a show like this, with two male characters, that it's hard to have characters who aren't loved-and-left, hunters, or demons. We've had all three, along the way. But why the imbalance towards demons who are female? Yeah, I'm sure that Dean would have hit -any- demon, in that restaurant, - but did it have to be a woman? It goes back to last season, whre the wording and his actions towards women were starting to get to me.

And the psychic - well, first of all there's the slightly icky factor of wondering why women are always portraying the people who kind of tap into the conduits of the spirit world and evil or fall victim to it, but also, we met her and now we're unlikely to ever see her again, since she lost her eyes.

And then there's the fact that the angel - assuming that he's a good angel - is, well: male. So we have the females on the bad side, guys on the good side. Nice to know where we stand, huh? The two big baddies that I can think of who were male are the YED and Gordon, and they're both gone, now.

Don't get me wrong - I love this show. But I really would like to see a change in how they're approaching their female characters.

Also, does anyone have a link or remember that interview that Kripke gave, where he said something about how he thought that the fans always had a bad reaction to female characters, or something?
