Well that time of year has past again. Setting our clocks back an hour, and the cold air begins to take its toll when the heat doesn't work quite right, and there is never hot water. Even with that I don't miss the cold winds off the bay and the never-ending doom of those northeastern gusts, but I do miss my boy who has to deal with them. So I guess I am going to recap the last week meaning it was interesting.
Wednesday night, or Hollow’s eve was nice. I finished up studio as tricker treaters ran up and down Livernois so they could hit the side streets on there trek to Palmer Woods where the real bounty is to be had, their laughs of joy were comforting when normally all I hear is the sound of sirens and traffic. There was some rain and the crowds dissipated, it was just after nine and I was waiting for Jayke to get to Detroit with Mandy so we could go out, when they got here it took forever we had to wait for Mandy on the internet and I lost my sheet so I had to improvise a costume out of short shorts and a track jacket. We went to Odd Man Out at the Comet Bar, which is a little dive in the Lower Cass Corridor. The crowd was small, the bar was a dump with mirrors and stickers from times gone by behind the counter, but the music was good. When we came in a Hasidic Jew as spinning some records, Kelly-Pink-O did a few as well. The people were the normal Detroit fair in their mod styling and mood. It was a nice time to dance the night away with Jayke. Kelly threw up a few times nothing new there. Overall the night went well we retired back to Holden Mandy ran up to Pontiac, and came back we walked across campus to get her, and then sleep was had by all.
Next was Saturday night. Veronicas sister Gaylin was in Detroit so I went and hung out with them. An 8 o'clock coffee run to Amsterdam was in order and we talked for a bit. As the shop was closing we decided to drop by a performance art piece at MOCAD, this is where the fun starts. So inside the Cafe room there is an inflatable set made up of mis-iles that say things like mis-led, and in front of that was a man in boxers and a G.W. Bush Jr. mask, a lady in a white lab coat was running about him with scissors and snipping at his underpants. She cut and cut and more and more of the man came into view, soon he was naked, standing there. At this point some patriotic tune starts and she takes out bottles of paint she drinks it and spits it on our naked emperor. Red, White, and Blue. Sadly that was all we saw of the performance art, but I really I think that’s all we needed to see. After that we walked through the museum and looked at the pieces up in Words Fail Me. The telephone video was interesting and sparked Veronica’s thoughts on our Banned Books project in studio. While discussing that and moving to the counter we got ambushed by a woman with a camera from the Detroit News, a reporter asked us a few questions about MOCAD as well. I have to get the Wednesday News to see if I made the paper. After MOCAD we walked back to Veronicas and drank some Stroh’s and watched Scrubs.
That’s all for now.
