dreams of flying, and infinity

Aug 19, 2007 10:40

Usually, when I dream of flying, the dream involves the knowledge that I CAN fly, and that I HAVE flown, but the dream itself is taken up with trying to get the launch right. Generally this involves a particular flip of the ankles which propels me into giant, soaring arcs which might come down 100s of feet away.

This one was similar, but the launch technique involved jumping from the roof of a moving car, usually one heading downhill. As I gradually drifted towards consciousness, the stupidity of this method seeped in to my awareness. My waking thought was wondering what the 'critical speed' was, anyway, and what would happen if I misjudged... Still, a good dream overall, and I woke up in a good mood.

Finished the next book yesterday:

Keys to Infinity
by Clifford A. Pickover

Pickover also wrote #33 - "Surfing Through Hyperspace", which was cute but a bit more superficial than I would have liked. I suppose this one was the same way. For a book about infinity, it devoted far too much space to numbers, number puzzles, and other finite phenomona. I was hoping for more brain splody moments, and was dissappointed.

Maybe I'll hunt down Gamow's "One Two Three... Infinity". Haven't read that one for years.
